Heller Center
The Heller Center at Eagle Rock, Colorado Springs, Colorado is a nature preserve bequeathed to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to support local arts and humanities education. History From the 1930s Dottie and Lawrence Heller homesteaded a land parcel in the pinion-pine grasslands at Austin Bluffs, settling directly below the rocky outcrop of Eagle Rock. The Hellers named their homestead "Yawn Valley", and held parties for Lawrence Heller's artist colleagues from the Broadmoor Art Academy. The area has seen increasing urban development since that time. After 60 years at Yawn Valley, the Hellers bequeathed their ranchland with the architecture and art collection to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs for use as a nature preserve to support local arts and humanities education. Broadmoor Art Academy
The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College (FAC) is an arts center located just north of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. Located on the same city block are the American Numismatic Association and part of the campus of Colorado College. The center uses a thick red outline of a square as its logo. History With $600,000, Alice Bemis Taylor funded the 1936 construction of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and provided a $400,000 donation for an endowment. Constructed during the Great Depression, Taylor saw the project as a means of employment for unemployed laborers. Taylor donated her extensive Indian and Hispanic art and her collection of 6,000 volumes of Americana. She envisioned a place that would be accessible to all people, with no admission charge. Pikes Peak
Pikes Peak is the List of mountain ranges of Colorado#Mountain ranges, highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in North America. Cragmor Sanatorium
The town of Colorado Springs, Colorado played an important role in the history of tuberculosis in the era before antituberculosis drugs and vaccines. Tuberculosis management before this era was difficult and often of limited effect. In the 19th century, a movement for tuberculosis treatment in hospital-like facilities called sanatoriums became prominent, especially in Europe and North America. Thus people sought tuberculosis treatment in Colorado Springs because of its dry climate and fresh mountain air. Some people stayed in boarding houses, while others sought the hospital-like facilities of sanatoriums. Austin Bluffs is a summit in the Pikeview, Colorado, Pikeview area of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado, at in elevation. It is also a residential area, that was once a settlement and the site of a Tuberculosis treatment in Colorado Springs, tuberculosis sanatorium.
