Hellboy
Hellboy is a fictional superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. The character first appeared in ''San Diego Comic-Con Comics'' #2 (August 1993), and has since appeared in various eponymous miniseries, one-shots and intercompany crossovers. The character has been adapted into three live-action feature films. Two starring Ron Perlman in 2004 and 2008 in the title role, and one in 2019 which starred David Harbour, as well as two straight-to-DVD animated films, and three video games – ''Asylum Seeker'', '' The Science of Evil'', and as a playable character in ''Injustice 2''. A well-meaning half-Demon (or Cambion) whose true name is Anung Un Rama ("and upon his brow is set a crown of flame"), Hellboy was summoned from Hell to Earth as a baby by Nazi occultists (spawning his hatred for the Third Reich). ''Hellboy'' is a 2019 American superhero film based on the comic books of the same name published by Dark Horse Comics. Directed by Neil Marshall, the film stars David Harbour in the title role, alongside Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Thomas Haden Church. It is a reboot of the ''Hellboy'' film series, and the third live-action film in the franchise. The film draws inspiration from the comic books '' Darkness Calls'', '' The Wild Hunt'', '' The Storm and the Fury'', and ''Hellboy in Mexico''. In the film, Hellboy struggles with his own existential crisis while preventing a resurrected sorceress from conquering the world. The project began as a sequel to '' Hellboy II: The Golden Army'' (2008), with Andrew Cosby and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola writing the script. ''Hellboy II: The Golden Army'' is a 2008 American superhero film based on the fictional character Hellboy created by Mike Mignola. The film was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro from a story by him and Mignola, and is a sequel to the 2004 film '' Hellboy'', which del Toro also directed. Ron Perlman reprises his starring role as the eponymous character. ''Hellboy II: The Golden Army'' was released by Universal Pictures. The film grossed over $168 million, against a production budget between $82.5–85 million. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised the fantasy atmosphere of the film, as well as Perlman and the other cast's acting performances. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup.
