Helix High School
Helix High School, in La Mesa, California, is a charter high school built in 1952. It received its charter in 1998. Part of the Grossmont Union High School District, it serves a mid-level socioeconomic community and has a student body of approximately 2,400 pupils. Helix serves parts of La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Spring Valley; however, as a charter school, all high school students in the state of California are eligible to attend. Helix High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a California Distinguished School in 2001 and 2009. La Mesa, California
La Mesa () is a city in San Diego County, located east of Downtown San Diego in Southern California. The population was 61,121 at the 2020 census, up from 57,065 at the 2010 census. Its civic motto is "the Jewel of the Hills." History La Mesa in Spanish means "the table", or alternately "the plateau", relating to its geography. La Mesa was part of a larger tract, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, and was used by Spanish missionaries. La Mesa was founded in 1869 and The City of La Mesa was incorporated on February 16, 1912. Evan Anthony Arapostathis (born October 30, 1963) is an American former professional football player who was a punter for the St. Louis Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). He played one season for the Cardinals in 1986. Playing career Growing up in San Diego County, California, Arapostathis attended Helix High School in La Mesa. After two years at Grossmont College in El Cajon, he transferred to Eastern Illinois University, where he was both their kicker and punter for two years.
