Helicarion Mastersi
''Helicarion mastersi'' is a species of air-breathing land snail, also referred to as a semi-slug because of its small shell. It is a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Helicarionidae. The specific name ''mastersi'' is in honor of the Australian malacologist George Masters (1837-1912), who collected the type specimen. Subspecies Subspecies include: * ''Helicarion mastersi callidus'' Iredale, 1941 * ''Helicarion mastersi mastersi'' (Cox, 1868) Distribution This species is found in New South Wales, Australia. The type locality is Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. Description ''Helicarion mastersi'' was originally described (under the name ''Vitrina mastersi'') by James Charles Cox in 1868. Cox's original text (the type description) reads as follows: Ecology This semislug lives in closed Eucalyptus forests. It is primarily an arboreal species, but it can also be found in leaf litter Plant litter (also leaf litter, tree litter, soil litter ...

Type Genus
In biological taxonomy, the type genus is the genus which defines a biological family and the root of the family name. Zoological nomenclature According to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, "The name-bearing type of a nominal family-group taxon is a nominal genus called the 'type genus'; the family-group name is based upon that of the type genus." Any family-group name must have a type genus (and any genus-group name must have a type species, but any species-group name may, but need not, have one or more type specimens). The type genus for a family-group name is also the genus that provided the stem to which was added the ending -idae (for families). :Example: The family name Formicidae has as its type genus the genus ''Formica'' Linnaeus, 1758. Botanical nomenclature In botanical nomenclature, the phrase "type genus" is used, unofficially, as a term of convenience. In the '' ICN'' this phrase has no status. The code uses type specimens for ranks up to fam ...

André Étienne D'Audebert De Férussac
Baron André Étienne Justin Pascal Joseph François d'Audebert de Férussac (30 December 1786 – 21 January 1836) was a French naturalist best known for his studies of molluscs. (Two of his given names are sometimes spelt Just or Juste instead of Justin, and d'Audibert, d'Audebard, or d'Audeberd instead of "d'Audebert".) He was born in Chartron, near Lauzerte in the province of Quercy (now in Tarn-et-Garonne), the son of Jean Baptiste Louis d'Audibert de Férussac and Marie Catherine Josèphe de Rozet, and was professor of geography and statistics at the École d'état-major in Paris. Taxa Férussac named and described numerous taxa of gastropods, including: * '' Cochlodina'' Férussac, 1821, a land snail genus * ''Helicostyla'' Férussac, 1821, a land snail genus Various other taxa were named in honor of him, including: * Ferussaciidae Bourguignat, 1883,Bourguignat, J. Distribution The distribution of Helicarionidae includes the eastern Palearctic, Malagasy, India, south-eastern Asia, Hawaii, and Australia. Anatomy Species of snails within this family make and use love darts made of chitin. In this family, the number of haploid chromosomes lies between 21 and 30 (according to the values in this table). Taxonomy The family Helicarionidae is nested within the limacoid clade, as shown in the following cladogram :Hausdorf B. (2000). "Biogeography of the Limacoidea sensu lato (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora): Vicariance Events and Long-Distance Dispersal". ''Journal of Biogeography'' 27(2): 379-390.
