Helgi Skúlason
Helgi Skúlason (4 September 1933 – 25 September 1996) was an Icelandic actor and stage director. Early life and education Helgi was born in Keflavík and attended the district school at Laugarvatn; he trained as an actor at the National Theatre of Iceland school, finishing in 1954. Career He began his career with the National Theatre. In 1959 he joined the Reykjavík Theatre Company, remaining with that company until 1976 as an actor and director and serving terms as its president and on its board, until he rejoined the National Theatre in 1976. He also directed a number of productions for the RÚV Playhouse. In 1972 he co-founded the Icelandic Directors' Association (Félag leikstjóra á Íslandi) and was its first chairman. In 1964 he won the Silver Lamp Award for the best performance by an actor for his role as Franz in an adaptation of Jean-Paul Sartre's ''The Condemned of Altona''. Keflavík
Keflavík (pronounced , meaning ''Driftwood Bay'') is a town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. It is included in the municipality of Reykjanesbær whose population as of 2016 is 15,129. In 1995, Keflavik merged with nearby Njarðvík and Hafnir to form the municipality of Reykjanesbær. Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir
Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir (born 18 June 1954) is an Icelandic actress. She has appeared in twelve films since 1981. She starred in '' As in Heaven'', which was screened out of competition at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. She is the sister of director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson. Her husband is the singer, actor and composer Egill Ólafsson. She was the Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Iceland from 2005 to 2015. Helga Vala Helgadóttir
Helga Vala Helgadóttir (born 14 March 1972 in Reykjavik) is an Icelandic lawyer, former member of the Althing, and an actress. She was a member of the Althing, elected in the 2017 Icelandic parliamentary election for the Reykjavík North constituency, but resigned in September 2023 to become a lawyer again. She was educated at Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð and then in 1998 trained in acting at the Icelandic Academy of the Performing Arts. She later gained a BA in 2009 and a master's degree in law from Reykjavík University in 2011. In 2011 she also received her lawyer's license and from 2011 to 2017, she operated her own law firm. Personal life Helga Vala is married to Grímur Atlason, a former manager of the Iceland Airwaves music festival. They have four children together. Althing
The Alþingi (''general meeting'' in Icelandic, , anglicised as ' or ') is the supreme national parliament of Iceland. It is one of the oldest surviving parliaments in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ("thing fields" or "assembly fields"), situated approximately east of what later became the country's capital, Reykjavík. Even after Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing still held its sessions at until 1800, when it was discontinued. It was restored in 1844 by royal decree and moved to Reykjavík. The restored unicameral legislature first came together in 1845 and after 1874 operated in two chambers with an additional third chamber taking on a greater role as the decades passed until 1991 when Althing became once again unicameral. ''Pathfinder'' (original title in Sami: ''Ofelaš'' and in Norwegian: ''Veiviseren'') is a 1987 Norwegian action-adventure film written and directed by Nils Gaup. The film is based on an old Sami legend. It was the first full-length film in Sami, and it was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1988.
