Helensvale State High School
Helensvale High School is a public secondary school located in the suburb of Helensvale on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is situated on the corner of Discovery Drive and Helensvale Road. The school first opened in 1990 with Rod Cassidy as the foundation principal. The School motto is One student, one community, many futures . Helensvale High caters for a large catchment of students, with nearly 2,600 enrolments, making it one of the largest high schools in the Gold Coast region. History Helensvale High commenced in 1990 with barely 200 students and a small staff, numbering 12, led by the inaugural principal, Rod Cassidy. Students came from a wide feeder area, as far north as Jacob's Well, west to Mount Tamborine and south to Gaven, as well as the rapidly growing Helensvale area. Kalinda Howarth
Kalinda Howarth (born 2 August 1999) is an Australian rules footballer with the Collingwood Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She was previously listed at the Brisbane Lions in 2018 and played for the Gold Coast Suns from 2020 to 2023. Howarth is a dual Gold Coast leading goalkicker and was named in the 2020 AFL Women's All-Australian team. Samantha Jane Stosur ( ; born 30 March 1984) is an Australian professional tennis player. She is a former world No. 1 in doubles, a ranking which she first achieved on 6 February 2006 and held for 61 consecutive weeks. The Gold Coast Titans are a professional rugby league football club, based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL), Australia and New Zealand's national rugby league club competition. Jayden Campbell (born 7 February 2000) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a for the Gold Coast Titans in the National Rugby League (NRL). Background Campbell was born in Cronulla, Sydney, New South Wales, into a family of Indigenous Australian (Kamilaroi) and Danish descent. Hurdling
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Sally Pearson
Sally Pearson, OAM (née McLellan; born 19 September 1986) is an Australian former athlete. She is the 2011 and 2017 World champion and 2012 Olympic champion in the 100 metres hurdles. She also won a silver medal in the 100 m hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2013 World Championships. Athletic career Sally Pearson was born in Sydney and moved to Birdsville, Queensland when she was eight years old, before eventually settling on the Gold Coast. It was there, while she was still in primary school, that her athletic talents were noticed by Sharon Hannan, who coached her until 2013. Lynsey Reeve Clarke (née Armitage, born 6 December 1983 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England) is an Australian lawn bowler. Bowls career World Championship In 2008, she won a gold in the fours and team event and a bronze medal in the pairs at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. The success continued in the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship winning another gold medal in the triples and team events. In 2020, she was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Serene Watson (born 3 November 2001) is an Australian rules footballer playing for St Kilda in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW). She has previously played for the Gold Coast. Early life Watson was born in Sydney, New South Wales and moved to the Gold Coast at eight years of age. She attended Helensvale State High School throughout her upbringing and began playing junior football with the Broadbeach Cats. She later switched to play for the Bond University and became a dual All-Australian at the under-18 level in 2018 and 2019. Watson signed with the Gold Coast Suns Academy. Rory Thompson (born 12 March 1991) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was one of the club's Zone Selections, and played in the Gold Coast's first season, in 2011. Junior football Thompson is the son of Southport Sharks hall-of-famer and dual premiership player Brett Thompson.
