Helena Cortesina
Helena Cortesina (also known as Elena Cortesina or Elena Manuela Dolores Cortés Altabas) was a Spanish film director, actor, producer, and theatrical entrepreneur. She directed and produced the first known film by a Spanish woman, '' Flor de España o la leyenda de un torero'' (1921), which has since been lost. She acted in the film alongside her sisters, Ofelia and Angélica, who were collectively referred to as the Hermanas Cortesina. Early life and career She began her career as a dancer, performing to songs by Spanish composers, with an aesthetic heavily influenced by Greek art. Cortesina has been identified as one of the models for the 1917 painting ''Danzarinas griegas'', by the painter Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida. She later founded a production company, Cortesina Films, in Madrid in 1921. Flor De España O La Leyenda De Un Torero
Flor (Spanish and Portuguese for ''flower'') in winemaking, is a film of yeast on the surface of wine, important in the manufacture of some styles of sherry. The flor is formed naturally under certain winemaking conditions, from indigenous yeasts found in the region of Andalucía in southern Spain. Normally in winemaking, it is essential to keep young wines away from exposure to air by sealing them in airtight barrels, to avoid contamination by bacteria and yeasts that tend to spoil it. However, in the manufacture of sherries, the slightly porous oak barrels are deliberately filled only about five-sixths full with the young wine, leaving "the space of two fists" empty to allow the flor yeast to take form and the bung is not completely sealed. The flor favors cooler climates and higher humidity, so the sherries produced in the coastal Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María have a thicker cap of flor than those produced inland in Jerez. ''The Phantom Lady'' (Spanish: ''La Dama duende'') is a 1945 Argentine film directed by Luis Saslavsky. At the 1946 Argentine Film Critics Association Awards the film won Silver Condor Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Music. It is based on a seventeenth-century comedy with the same name by Pedro Calderón de la Barca, translated as '' The Phantom Lady''. However, the film alters the play considerably - the plot is heavily rewritten, and the style of dialogue is completely changed. Calderon's comedy is written in verse, while the screenplay of the film is in prose and contains scenes not found in the play. The final scene includes a fierce storm from which the hero rescues the heroine and declares his love for her, a scene added to the film. Pedro Calderón de la Barca y Barreda González de Henao Ruiz de Blasco y Riaño (, ; ; 17 January 160025 May 1681) was a Spanish dramatist, poet, writer and knight of the Order of Santiago. He is known as one of the most distinguished Baroque writers of the Spanish Golden Age, especially for his plays. Calderón de la Barca was born in Madrid, where he spent most of his life. He was born on a boat in the Manzanares river, thus the name "de la Barca" added to his father's last name. During his life, he served as soldier and he was a Roman Catholic priest. Born when the Spanish Golden Age theatre was being defined by Lope de Vega, he developed it further, his work being regarded as the culmination of the Spanish Baroque theatre.
