Helen M. Schultz
Helen M. Schultz (February 12, 1898 – 1974), known as "Iowa's Bus Queen," founded a U.S. bus company during the industry's formative years. In 1924, she founded the Red Ball Transportation Company, whose routes extended across northern Iowa, Family and education Helen Mary Schultz was the second child of Joseph Schultz and Mary Schultz, who were farmers in the region of Nashua, Iowa, and Shell Lake, Wisconsin. After finishing school, she attended a business college in Duluth, Minnesota, where she trained as a stenographer. She worked at various businesses, from some of which she gained useful knowledge about the transportation industries. In 1925, she married Donald Brewer, who later became a farmer. U.S. Highway 218 (US 218) is an original United States Highway that was created in 1926. Although technically a spur of US 18, US 218 neither begins nor ends at US 18, but overlaps US 18 for near Charles City, Iowa. US 218 begins at 136 in downtown Keokuk and ends away at Interstate 35 (I-35) and US 14 at Owatonna, Minnesota. A large portion of US 218 in Iowa is part of the Avenue of the Saints, which connects St. Louis, Missouri, and Saint Paul, Minnesota. Spirit Lake is a city in Dickinson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,439 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Dickinson County. The town is located along the western shore of East Okoboji Lake, in the Iowa Great Lakes region. History The Dakota Sioux originated the name of "Spirit Lake" referring to it as "The Lake of The Spirit." In 1856, three brothers-in-law created the town of Spirit Lake after a visit to the Lakes area piqued their interest. The three brothers-in-law, O.C. Howe, B.F. Parmenter, and R.U. Wheelock, were soon joined by various other settlers, making homes along the lakes' shores.
