Helen Deeble
Helen Deeble CBE is a British businesswoman. She was the Chief Executive of P&O Ferries until December 2017, and was formerly President of the UK Chamber of Shipping. Career Mrs Deeble trained as an accountant and worked at Sears plc. She entered the shipping industry at Stena Line in 1993, becoming finance director of the merged P&O Stena Line in 1998. Since May 2006, she has been Chief Executive of P&O Ferries, succeeding Russ Peters. She is a board member of Interferry, the UK Chamber of Shipping and the Standard P&I Club. Deeble is a non-executive director of the Port of London Authority and chairs the management committee of the Authority's pension fund. She was vice-president and president of the UK Chamber of Shipping from 2011 to 2013. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. P&O Ferries is a British shipping company that operates ferry, ferries from United Kingdom to Ireland, and to Continental Europe (France, Belgium and the Netherlands). The UK Chamber of Shipping is the trade association and voice of the UK shipping industry, representing around 200 member companies. Russ Peters is a British businessman, who was the managing director of P&O Ferries from 1998 to 2006. Career Peters joined P&O in 1987, initially as freight director of P&O European Ferries. He then became managing director of P&O North Sea Ferries in 1990, before becoming serving as managing director of P&O Ferries Dover from 1994 until 1998. The Port of London Authority (PLA) is a self-funding public trust established on 31 March 1909 in accordance with the Port of London Act 1908 to govern the Port of London. Its responsibility extends over the Tideway of the River Thames and its continuation (the Kent/Essex strait). It maintains and supervises navigation, and protects the river's environment. The PLA originally operated all enclosed dock systems on the river (except the Regent's Canal Dock), but these have long been closed to commercial traffic, with the exception of Port of Tilbury, which was privatised in 1992.
