Helen Coghlan is an Australian magician living on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Early life Helen is the daughter of Australian escapologist and magician Arthur Coghlan. She began her career in 1981. At the 19th Australian Convention of Magicians in 1984, she took home the first place trophy for junior magic. Professional life Helen started working as a magician's assistant at the Magic Castle. In 1987, she was the first woman in the world who completed for the first time the fear-inducing underwater act known as Houdini's Water Torture Escape, created by the legendary Harry Houdini. Helen Coghlan performs illusions created by Arthur on the television program '' Penn and Teller Fool Us''. In 2018, she appeared on the 5th season of '' Penn & Teller: Fool Us'', where she successfully fooled Penn and Teller with a trick where she pushed a solid rod through a glass of milk. Escapology is the practice of escaping from restraints or other traps. Escapologists (also classified as escape artists) escape from handcuffs, straitjackets, cages, coffins, steel boxes, barrels, bags, burning buildings, fish-tanks, and other perils, often in combination. Magic Mountain, Nobby Beach
Magic Mountain was an amusement park in Nobby Beach, Queensland, Australia which operated from 1962 to 1991. The amusement park was situated atop a mountain which now houses a variety of properties. Origins In 1962, Page Newman built the Nobby Beach chairlift that later formed part of the Magic Mountain entertainment park. A cafeteria was built on top of the outcrop. It was a gamble that paid off, in its first year of operation the chair-lift carried 40,000 people. A Magic Castle was built, giving the park the "magic" theme. Page Newman sold the park in 1976 to George Carrett. Carrett owned the park until 1982 when it was sold again. Harry Houdini
Harry Houdini (, born Erik Weisz; March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) was a Hungarian-American escape artist, magic man, and stunt performer, noted for his escape acts. His pseudonym is a reference to his spiritual master, French magician Robert-Houdin (1805–1871). He first attracted notice in vaudeville in the United States and then as "Harry 'Handcuff' Houdini" on a tour of Europe, where he challenged police forces to keep him locked up. Soon he extended his repertoire to include chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, straitjackets under water, and having to escape from and hold his breath inside a sealed milk can with water in it. John van der Put (born 9 June 1980) is a magician and comedian from the United Kingdom who performs under the stage name Piff the Magic Dragon. Paul Gertner is an American close-up magician from Pittsburgh. He is best known in the magic world for his ''Steel and Silver'' book and set of DVDs. Magic career Paul Gertner's interest in magic began as a child, borrowing library books on the subject. He claims his interest in magic began with his father, who created "magical" home movies using special effects and an 8 mm video camera. When he was sixteen, Gertner worked nights at the Forks Hotel in Buffalo, New York, learning a great deal about how to interact with an audience and the psychological side of performing.
