Hejaz Train Station
Hejaz railway station ( ar, محطة الحجاز, french: Gare du Hedjaz) is a former main railway station in central Damascus, Syria close to the Marjeh Square. The station was put into operation under the Ottoman Empire in 1907, when the first section of the line to the south of Tabuk was opened. In 1909 the trains circulated frequently between Damascus and Medina. It was part of the Hejaz Railway, and there were many railway stations of the railway. This includes 'Hejaz railway stations' at: al-Taibe, Amman, Anese, Bosra, D'ara, Derra, Djizeh, el-Akhthar, el-Ula, Haifa, Jisra, Kadem, Khamees, Makarin, Ma'an, Marfaq, Meda'in Saleh, Muazzem, Tabuk, Wadi Kelt, Wadi Rum, Zarqaa and Zat ul Hajj. The passenger building, designed by the Spanish architect Fernando De Aranda, was commissioned in 1913. Al-Hijaz, Damascus
Al-Hijaz ( ar, الحجاز) is a neighborhood and district of the Qanawat municipality of Damascus, Syria. It had a population of 5,572 in the 2004 census. The neighborhood was founded during the early 20th century, during the last years of Ottoman rule in Syria. It was built around the Hijaz Railway station in the city, which was founded in 1913. Aleppo railway station ( ar, محطة قطار حلب) more commonly Gare de Baghdad ( ar, محطة بغداد), is the 2nd oldest railway station in Syria and the main station of the city of Aleppo. It was opened in 1912 as part of the Berlin–Baghdad railway. The first ever trip from the station was towards the town of Jarabulus. History The Baghdad railway station was built in 1912 by German engineers as part of the Berlin Baghdad line, thus the railway had reached Aleppo with the branch to Tripoli, by the start of World War I; and onwards to Nusaybin by October 1918. Damascus–Amman Train
The Damascus–Amman train or Damascus–Amman railway is an international train service operating on the former Hedjaz Railway from Damascus, Syria to Amman, Jordan. It is currently the only passenger train operating in Jordan. The train operates on narrow gauge tracks of . History The Hedjaz Railway opened in 1908 by the Ottoman Empire from Damascus to Medina. Hedjaz Jordan Railway
The Hedjaz Jordan Railway is one of the two successor railways to the famous Hedjaz Railway. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed in 1920, the Hedjaz Railway, formerly under Ottoman control, was divided into 2 railways: the Chemin de Fer de Hedjaz Syrie (CFH) and the Hedjaz Jordan Railway (HJR). The HJR operated the line of the Hedjaz railway in Jordan (at the time British Palestine). When Jordan was formed in 1946, the railway served as the state railway of Jordan, though it was not owned by the state. In 1975 the HJR built a line branch line from Ma'an to Aqaba, a port city. The line was later sold to the Aqaba Railway Corporation in 1979. The Hedjaz Jordan Railway still operates today between the Jordan/ Syria border, through Amman to Irbid.
