Heinz Jentzsch
Heinz Jentzsch (13 March 192021 April 2012) was the most successful horse trainer in the history of German horse racing. Career During his active years from 1942 to 1999, Jentzsch recorded 4,029 victories. After World War II he came to Cologne to train for the 'Stallgemeinschaft Asterblüte', a group of major German owners of race-horses (Gestüte Schlenderhan, Fährhof, Bona, Charlottenhof, Ittlingen). From 1960 to 1994, he was the most successful coach, winning the German trainer-championship 31 times. He won 21 German trainer-championships in succession from 1967 to 1987. He won the Deutsches Derby eight times (filling the first three places in 1985), the Preis der Diana eleven times and the Japan Cup with Lando. Hoppegarten
Hoppegarten is a municipality in the district Märkisch-Oderland, in Brandenburg, Germany. History The current municipality was created in 2003 when the former municipalities of Hönow and Münchehofe were united with Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten. The old Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten is now a district composed by Birkenstein and Waldesruh. Geography Hoppegarten is located close to the eastern suburbs of Berlin (Mahlsdorf, in the borough of Marzahn-Hellersdorf). The other bordering municipalities are Ahrensfelde (BAR), Werneuchen (BAR), Altlandsberg, Neuenhagen and Schöneiche (LOS). Preis Der Diana
The Preis der Diana is a Group 1 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Düsseldorf over a distance of 2,200 metres (about 1 mile and 3 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early August. It is Germany's equivalent of The Oaks, a famous race in England. History The event was established in 1857, and it was originally contested at Tempelhof over 2,000 metres. It was transferred to Hoppegarten in 1868. The race was staged at Grunewald for a short period after World War I, and it returned to Hoppegarten in 1923. It was abandoned in 1945 and 1946, and it took place at Düsseldorf in 1947. It began a long period at Mülheim in 1948. Acatenango (horse)
Acatenango (1982–2005) was a German Thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by the Deutsches Derby winner and German Champion sire, Surumu, he was out of the English mare Aggravate. Acatenango's ancestry includes German Champion sire Dark Ronald, the French Champion sire, Tantieme, English Triple Crown champion Gainsborough, and the most influential Italian sire, Nearco. Racing in 1984 at age two, Acatenango's best finish was a third in the Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld. In 1985 he embarked on a thirteen-race winning streak that tied a European record held by Ardross and Brigadier Gerard. Included in his wins was the Grosser Bavaria Preis, a listed race at Munich Racecourse and the important Group One Aral-Pokal at the Gelsenkirchen Racecourse in Gelsenkirchen. Acatenango's most important win that year came in the Deutsches Derby, the equivalent of the United Kingdom's Epsom Derby and America's Kentucky Derby.
