Heinrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Wackenroder
Heinrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Wackenroder (8 March 1798 Burgdorf, Hanover – 4 September 1854 Jena) was a German chemist. Career and work In June, 1826 Wackenroder published his doctoral dissertation, “On Anthelminthics in the Vegetable Kingdom,” presented to Göttingen University, which earned him praise, and the Royal Prize. In 1827 he obtained his doctorate from the University of Erlangen, becoming an associate professor the following year at the University of Jena, where he worked with Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner (1780-1849). In 1836 he was appointed Professor ordinarius and Director of the Pharmacy Institute, later known as the Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute. He became especially known for his discovery of carotin and his correspondence with Goethe. In subsequent years he became co-editor of Archiv der Pharmazie. In 1826 Wackenroder isolated corydalin from ''Corydalis cava'' and in 1831 isolated carotin in an ether extract from carrots.

Burgdorf, Hanover
Burgdorf (Standard German pronunciation: bʊʁk.dɔʁf Low German: Bortörp) is a town in the Hanover Region, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 22 km northeast of Hanover. Until 1974, Burgdorf was the capital of the Burgdorf district. The town and its surrounding areas are known for the tradition of growing white Asparagus and for breeding Hanoverian horses. Corydalis
''Corydalis'' (from Greek ''korydalís'' "crested lark") is a genus of about 470 species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants in the family Papaveraceae, native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere and the high mountains of tropical eastern Africa. They are most diverse in China and the Himalayas, with at least 357 species in China. Ecology ''Corydalis'' species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species (butterflies), especially the clouded Apollo. Toxicity ''Corydalis cava'' and some other tuberous species contain the alkaloid bulbocapnine, which is occasionally used in medicine but scientific evidence is lacking in the correct dosages and side effects. Hydrogen sulfide is a chemical compound with the formula . It is a colorless chalcogen-hydride gas, and is poisonous, corrosive, and flammable, with trace amounts in ambient atmosphere having a characteristic foul odor of rotten eggs.
