Heidi Abderhalden
Heidi Abderhalden (born 1962) is a Swiss- Colombian artist and theatre director. In 1984 she co-founded and since then she has co-directed Mapa Teatro in Bogotá. She and her co-director and brother won the Goethe Medal in 2018 for their fifty years of work breaking down cultural barriers. Life She was born in Bogotá. Her mother was Colombian and her father was Swiss. Her family's first language was French and she and her brother left Colombia after school there to study at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. Abderhalden studied all aspects of theatre production in Lausanne and Paris and became a director and a Dramaturge. She, her sister Elizabeth and her younger brother Rolf Abderhalden co-founded Mapa Teatro in Paris in 1984, before moving their partnership to Bogotá in 1986. Goethe Medal
The Goethe Medal, also known as the Goethe-Medaille, is a yearly prize given by the Goethe-Institut honoring non-Germans "who have performed outstanding service for the German language and for international cultural relations". It is an official decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany. The prize used to be given on 22 March, the anniversary of Goethe's death. Since 2009, it has been given on 28 August, the anniversary of Goethe's birth. The first awards were made in 1955. In the intervening years, through 2018, a total of 348 women and men from 65 countries have been so honored. L'École Internationale De Théâtre Jacques Lecoq
École internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq is a school of physical theatre located on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Founded in 1956 by Jacques Lecoq, the school offers a professional and intensive two-year course emphasizing the body, movement and space as entry points in theatrical performance and prepares its students to create collaboratively. This method is called mimodynamics. The school's graduate list includes renowned figures of stage such as Ariane Mnouchkine of Théâtre du Soleil, Steven Berkoff and Simon McBurney of Théâtre de Complicité, among others. Rolf Abderhalden
Rolf Abderhalden Cortés (born 1965) is a Colombian artist and theatre director. He was born in Manizales. He studied and practised the visual arts, before expanding quickly into other areas, notably theatre and set design. His work till date encompasses performance, installation, video installation, etc. and has been presented at unconventional spaces across Europe and America. He and his elder sister Heidi Abderhalden co-founded Mapa Teatro in Paris in 1984, before moving it to Bogota in 1986. His sister Elizabeth remained in Paris but she continued to be the theatre's costume designer. It is now known as one of the leading artistic companies in Colombia. Abderhalden also runs an arts studio at the Biblioteca Luís Ángel Arango, and since 1986 has taught at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
