''Hegemony'' is the tenth studio album from Swiss industrial metal band Samael, released on 13 October 2017 through Napalm. Background In February 2017, Samael signed with Austrian record label Napalm for worldwide distribution. The release year of the album coincides with the band's 30th anniversary. ''Hegemony'' is the first Samael album to feature bassist Thomas "Drop" Betrisey whose recruitment the band had announced in early 2015. Writing ''Hegemony'' was in the making for over four years and saw a shift from the occult and spiritual themes prevalent on past albums to social and political topics. "It is the first time we've been very much connected with the zeitgeist", said vocalist Vorph to Metal Hammer. Samael is a Swiss extreme metal band formed in 1987 in Sion. The current line up of the band include founding members and brothers Vorphalack (Vorph) and Xytraguptor (Xy), guitarist Drop and bassist Ales. A few other members have been part of the band throughout the years: Rodolph H. (keyboards, 1993–1995), Kaos (guitar, 1996–2001), Mas (bass, 1991–2014) and Makro (guitar, 2002–2018). Samael is known to incorporate metal, industrial, electronic and symphonic music into their sound and mix it with massive beats, martial rhythms and up-tempo or blast beat. Michael Locher (born 7 January 1969), also known as Vorphalack or simply Vorph, is a Swiss musician who provides vocals and is a guitarist for the industrial/black metal band Samael. Lennon–McCartney was the songwriting partnership between English musicians John Lennon (1940–1980) and Paul McCartney (born 1942) of the Beatles.
