Heera Saraniya
Naba Kumar Saraniya alias Heera Saraniya, also spelled as Heera Sarania and Hira Sarania, alias Naba Deka is an Indian politician who is currently a Member of parliament, Lok Sabha. He is representing the Kokrajhar constituency in Assam from 2014 and won as an Independent Candidate in Lok Sabha elections 2014. He won by the highest margin ever recorded in polls in Assam and as an independent candidate in the history of Lok Sabha elections. Saraniya continues his journey in parliament by winning 17th Lok Sabha election in Kokrajhar constituency for a second term. Earlier Saraniya was the commander of the 709 battalion of ULFA. He was said to be one of the most dreaded militants in Assam. He hails from Dighalipaar village under Tamulpur police station in Baksa district of Assam. Baksa District
Baksa district ( or ) is an administrative district in the Bodoland Territorial Region of Assam, one of the North-Eastern states of India. The administrative headquarters is at Mushalpur. Manas National Park is a part of this district. History Baksa was notified as one of the districts of Bodoland Territorial Region in October 2003 while it started functioning from 1 June 2004 when naturalist-bureaucrat Dr Anwaruddin Choudhury of the Assam Civil Service took charge as its founding Deputy Commissioner. Kokrajhar () is a town in the Bodoland Territorial Region, an autonomous territory in Assam, one of the North Eastern states of India. Kokrajhar town is located along the bank of the river Gaurang. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি বাহিনী, অসম) is an armed separatist organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. It seeks to establish an independent sovereign nation state of Assam for the indigenous Assamese people through an armed struggle in the Assam conflict. The Government of India banned the organisation in 1990 citing it as a terrorist organisation, while the United States Department of State lists it under "other groups of concern." According to ULFA sources, it was founded on 7 April 1979 at Rang Ghar and began operations in 1990. Sunil Nath, former Central Publicity Secretary and spokesman of ULFA has stated that the organisation established ties with the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland in 1983 and with the Burma based Kachin Independent Army in 1987. Sanjukta Mukti Fouj (SMF) ( Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি ফৌজ) is the military wing of the banned outfit ULFA in Assam, India. It was formed on March 16, 1996 and it has three full-fledged battalions – the 7th, 28th and 709th with allocated spheres of operation in HQ- Sukhni, Tinsukia/Dibrugarh and Kalikhota respectively. Bijoy Das
Bijoy Das, known as Bijoy Chinese, is a commanding officer of 28th battalion of ULFA, the banned terrorist organisation in Assam. He hails from Nalbari district of Assam. He was working as an adjutant to Prabal Neog, the former commanding officer of the battalion, till Neog's arrest. He had also been holding the post of deputy commander of the battalion with Bhaskar Hazarika, another top ULFA leader. According to police he is a moderate who favours a political solution to insurgency in Assam. After Arabinda Rajkhowa and his followers joined peace talk with Union of India, Paresh Baruah ranked up Bijoy Chinese from Lieutenant to Major and appointed as Deputy C-in-C of Eastern Command of the ULFA. Tapan Baruah
Tapan Baruah ( Assamese: তপন বৰুৱা) (real name Madan Das) was the first Commander of 28th Battalion of ULFA. Killed on 20 May 2002, Tapan Baruah was widely known as a skilled hardcore militant in guerrilla warfare in the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom. According to conflict analysists Tapan Baruah was trained in Kachin of Myanmar. Tapan Baruah was also ULFA's Action Group Commander.
