Heckmondwike (rugby League)
Heckmondwike was a semi-professional rugby league club based in Heckmondwike in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. The club played semi-professional rugby league for a total of 4 seasons and spent each of the seasons in the Yorkshire Senior Competition. They first became members of the Northern Rugby Football Union (now Rugby Football League) in 1896–97 and stayed for three seasons until 1898–99. After a two-year sojourn in the Yorkshire Second Competition, they returned to the Northern Rugby Football Union's Yorkshire Senior Competition in 1901–02 for a further single season. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. 1897–98 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1897–98 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the third season of rugby league football. Summary The leading try scorer this season was Hoskins of Salford, who crossed the line 30 times. The leading goal scorer was Albert Goldthorpe of Hunslet who was successful 66 times. The leading points scorer was also Goldthorpe who scored 135 points in the season. Headingley Stadium
Headingley Stadium is a stadium complex in Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, comprising two separate grounds; Headingley Cricket Ground and Headingley Rugby Stadium, linked by a two-sided stand housing common facilities. The grounds are the respective homes of Yorkshire County Cricket Club (CCC) and Leeds Rhinos rugby league club. Initially it was owned by the Leeds Cricket, Football and Athletic Company (Leeds Rhinos); however since 2006, the cricket ground has been owned by Yorkshire CCC with the rugby ground retained by Leeds CF&A. The two organisations jointly manage the complex. Leeds Rhinos
The Leeds Rhinos are a professional rugby league club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The club was formed in 1870 as Leeds St John's and play in the Super League, the top tier of English rugby league. They have played home matches at Headingley Stadium since 1890. In 1895, Leeds was one of twenty-two rugby clubs that broke away from the Rugby Football Union and formed what was originally the Northern Union, but is now the Rugby Football League. The club was known simply as Leeds until the end of the 1996 season, when they added Rhinos to their name. Horace Duckett
Horace Duckett (11 October 1867 – 3 March 1939) was a rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1890s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for England, and at club level for Bradford F.C., as a half-back, e.g. scrum-half, or fly-half, i.e. number 9, or 10, and club level rugby league (RL) for Bradford F.C. and Heckmondwike. Prior to Tuesday 27 August 1895, Bradford F.C. was a rugby union club, it then became a rugby league club, and since 1907 it has been the association football (soccer) club Bradford Park Avenue. Life Horace Duckett was born in Thornton, Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, and he died aged 71 in Todmorden, West Riding of Yorkshire. Half-back (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Props push in the scrums, while the hooker tries to secure the ball for their team by "hooking" it back with their heel.
