Heatley
Heatley is a surname of both English and Scottish origin. There appear to be several English origins of Heatley. The earliest references to the surname in Scotland are in the 11th century in the Borders region. The de Haitlie family held the lands where Mellerstain Castle is now situated. The lands of Mellerstain seem to have been closely linked to those of Fans and are mentioned in the early 13th century when they seem to have been subdivided into tofts which were owned by the de Hattely or de Haitley family, Richard of Fans and his half-brother David de Graham, amongst others. Grants and donations of land at Mellerstain were made to both Durham Priory and Kelso Abbey, and some time between 1265 and 1285 William de Hattely granted the abbot of Kelso the right to pass through his lands of Meloustan (Mellerstain) and permission to build a bridge over the Blackburn above his house. Basil Heatley
Benjamin Basil Heatley (25 December 1933 – 3 August 2019) was a British competitive long-distance runner, who was an Olympic marathon silver medallist and former world marathon record-holder. Although he favoured cross country running, he was also a skilled marathon runner and, despite running shoe technology being in its infancy, he was able to adapt easily to the change of conditions underfoot. Heatley was a three-time winner of the English National Cross Country title (1960, 1961, 1963). He competed in the International Cross Country Championships seven times between 1957 and 1964, winning the world title in 1961. In the early 1960s, he set a British record and a world record for the 10-mile run, then on 13 June 1964 he broke the record for the world's fastest marathon. Bill Heatley
William Clarence Heatley (12 July 1920 – 29 October 1971) was an Australian politician. Early life Born in Townsville, Queensland, Heatley was educated at All Souls School in Charters Towers. After serving in the military 1940–1945, he became a grazier at Warwick and Miles, as well as a company director. Politics On 14 April 1966, Heatley was appointed to the Australian Senate as a Liberal Senator for Queensland, filling the casual vacancy caused by the death of Liberal Senator Bob Sherrington. The Australian Constitution decreed that the seat be subject to a special election at the next lower house election in 1966, in which Heatley easily defeated Labor candidate and future Senator Bertie Milliner. Heatley held the seat until his defeat in 1967, taking effect in 1968. In 1970 he entered the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the member for Albert, but died in 1971. He is one of the wealthiest men in New Zealand according to the New Zealand National Business Review. His net worth is estimated to be $550 million. Daniel "Dany" James Heatley (born January 21, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey winger. Originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers second overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League (NHL) rookie of the year in 2002. However, Heatley's time with the Thrashers was derailed when he was at the wheel in a car crash in September 2003 that killed his teammate Dan Snyder. Biography Education Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, Heatley graduated from Teaneck High School in 1993. He graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2000. Norman George Heatley OBE (10 January 1911 – 5 January 2004) was an English biologist and biochemist. He was a member of the team of Oxford University scientists who developed penicillin. Norman Heatley developed the back-extraction technique for efficiently purifying penicillin in bulk.
