Heart Of The Sun
''Heart of the Sun'' is a Canadian drama film, directed by Francis Damberger and released in 1998. Based on the play ''Jennie's Story'' by Betty Lambert, the film explores the controversial '' Sexual Sterilization Act'' of Alberta through the story of Jennie (Christianne Hirt), a woman trying to have a baby with her husband Harry (Shaun Johnston) who learns that she was forcibly sterilized as a teenager. The film premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival in 1998. Francis Damberger
Francis Damberger is a Canadians, Canadian film and television director, producer and screenwriter. He is most noted for his 1991 film ''Solitaire (1991 film), Solitaire'', for which he was a Genie Award nominee for Canadian Screen Award for Best Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay at the 13th Genie Awards, and as a producer of ''Passchendaele (film), Passchendaele'', which won the Genie for Canadian Screen Award for Best Motion Picture, Best Picture at the 29th Genie Awards. Damberger studied acting at the University of Alberta, where he won second prize in a local playwriting competition in 1983 for his play ''Rat Tails''. He made the short films ''On the Edge'', ''The Road to Yorkton'' and ''Age Is No Barrier'' before releasing ''Solitaire'', his debut feature film, in 1991. Canadian Screen Award For Best Screenplay
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television presents one or more annual awards for the Best Screenplay for a Canadian film. Originally presented in 1968 as part of the Canadian Film Awards, from 1980 until 2012 the award continued as part of the Genie Awards ceremony. As of 2013, it is presented as part of the Canadian Screen Awards. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations. Betty Lambert
Betty Lambert, born Elizabeth Minnie Lee (August 23, 1933 – November 4, 1983) was a Canadian writer. Lambert was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Christopher and Bessie Lee (née Cooper), the oldest of three daughters. She graduated from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, in 1957. She married Frank Lambert in 1952. They were divorced in 1962. Betty had a daughter in 1964. Lambert received the 1956 Brissenden Creative Writing Award and the 1957 Macmillan Best Short Story Award. In 1965 she joined the English Department of the newly founded Simon Fraser University, where she eventually became professor. Lambert died in Burnaby, British Columbia, in 1983. Her work includes over seventy stage, radio, and television plays; additionally, works of both long and short fiction.
