''Heart of a Champion'' is the fifth studio album by American rapper Paul Wall. It was released by Warner Bros. Records, Warner Bros., Asylum Records and Swishahouse on July 13, 2010. Background Guests and production The album featured production mainly from Houston duo DJ Johnson (musician)#Production, Beanz N Kornbread and Travis Barker, who is part of the group Expensive Taste together with Paul Wall. Guests featuring on the album included rappers Yelawolf, Lil Keke, Jim Jones (rapper), Jim Jones, Raekwon, Bun B, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug and Devin the Dude. Wall's jewelry business partner Johnny Dang also appeared on the song ''Heart of a Champion''. Wall had a session with The Neptunes but they did not make the final cut. Critical reception The album received a 3/5 star rating from ''XXL (magazine), XXL''. Paul Wall
Paul Michael Slayton (born March 11, 1981), better known by his stage name Paul Wall, is an American rapper and DJ. He has spent much of his career affiliated with Swishahouse Records, and has released several albums under the label and collaborated with numerous other rappers signed to the label. He began his career performing alongside fellow Houstonian Chamillionaire, with whom he released several albums, including 2002's independently released '' Get Ya Mind Correct''. In 2005, he was signed to Atlantic Records and became successful with his major label debut ''The Peoples Champ'', which was followed up by '' Get Money, Stay True'' followed in 2007. Stayve Jerome Thomas (born September 8, 1980), better known by his stage name Slim Thug, is an American rapper. He initially gained mainstream attention for his contribution to the hit single by rapper Mike Jones, " Still Tippin'". In July 2005, he released his debut album '' Already Platinum'', which reached number two on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Marcus Lakee Edwards (born March 29, 1976), better known by his stage name Lil' Keke, is an American rapper and original member of the Southern hip hop collective Screwed Up Click. Biography Music career Lil' Keke gained national attention with his track "Southside" from his 1997 release "Don't Mess Wit Texas". In 2005, Lil' Keke signed to Swishahouse Records. In an interview with HitQuarters at the time, label president and A&R T. Farris said, "He is a legend here in Houston. He plays a big role in the whole style of rap that we make down here." ''The Peoples Champ'' is the second studio album by American rapper Paul Wall. It was released on September 13, 2005, by Swishahouse, Atlantic Records and Asylum Records. The album debuted at number one on the US ''Billboard'' 200, selling 176,000 copies in its first week. This serves as his first number one in two solo studio releases, after '' Chick Magnet'' (2004). The album was supported by four singles: "Sittin' Sidewayz" featuring Big Pokey, " They Don't Know", "Girl" and "Drive Slow" (Kanye West featuring Paul Wall and GLC). It featured rappers Jay-Z and Master P on a double cover.
