''Heart First'' is a 1984 album by British singer Hazell Dean. It was her first album as a mainstream pop artist following the top ten successes of "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)" and "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)". It was the first album to be produced by the highly successful Stock Aitken Waterman production team. Hazell Dean ( Poole; born 27 October 1952) is an English dance-pop singer, who achieved her biggest success in the 1980s as a leading Hi-NRG artist. She is best known for the top-ten hits in the United Kingdom "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)", "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" and "Who's Leaving Who". She has also worked as a songwriter and producer. Career Dean was born in Great Baddow, Essex. She started her career in the mid-1970s and came to prominence in the following decade after many years as a club performer and working on the gay scene with her brand of Hi-NRG. Hi-NRG (pronounced "high energy") is a genre of uptempo disco or electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in the United States during the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a music genre, typified by fast tempo, staccato hi-hat rhythms (and the four-on-the-floor pattern), reverberated "intense" vocals and "pulsating" octave basslines, it was particularly influential on the disco scene. Stock Aitken Waterman (abbreviated as SAW) are an English songwriting and record production trio consisting of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman. The trio had great success from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. SAW is considered one of the most successful songwriting and producing partnerships of all time, scoring more than 100 UK top 40 hits, selling 40 million records and earning an estimated £60 million (about $104 million). SAW started producing underground club hits, but earned worldwide success with a mix of hi-NRG-influenced sound, romantic Motown lyrics and Italo disco melodies. ''Always'' is the third album by British singer Hazell Dean. Released in October 1988, it coincided with the singer's comeback and featured the hit singles "Who's Leaving Who" (UK #4), "Maybe (We Should Call it a Day)" (UK #15) and "Turn It into Love" (UK #21). Also included were remixes of earlier singles; "They Say It's Gonna Rain" (UK #58, 1985), "No Fool (For Love)" (UK #41, 1985; original version included on ''Heart First''), and "Always Doesn't Mean Forever" (UK #92). The album itself reached #38 - her highest placing in the album charts. The album was also released in the US in 1988 with an alternative cover. "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" is a Hi-NRG song written and produced by British hit making team Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW), which became a hit for singer Hazell Dean in 1984. Dean, having had a top 10 hit in May 1984 with "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)", was looking for a follow-up single. Through her record company Proto Records she met SAW, who had by then worked with her label mates Divine and Agents Aren't Aeroplanes, but were virtually unknown. When Dean visited the producers, they played her the backing track of Divine's "You Think You're A Man". She liked it, so she agreed to record a single with them as tensions climbed over the need for a second hit. Peter Alan Waterman, (born 15 January 1947) is an English record producer, songwriter, radio and club DJ, television presenter, president of Coventry Bears rugby league club and a keen railway enthusiast. As a member of the Stock Aitken Waterman songwriting team, he wrote and produced many hit singles. He is the owner of significant collections of both historic and commercial railway locomotives and rolling stock. Early life Peter Alan Waterman was born in Stoke Heath, Coventry, Warwickshire. He was educated at Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School until he left in 1962 to work for British Railways. He became a steam locomotive fireman based at Wolverhampton (Stafford Road) depot. In 2002 he said of his time working for British Railways, "I loved every minute of it. The squalor was unreal, but the camaraderie was phenomenal." Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire by Iain McNay in 1978.
