Hearst Elans
The Hearst Elans were a Canadian Junior ice hockey team from Hearst, Ontario. They played in the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League. In 1998 and 1999 they competed in the Western Canada Junior B Championships, the Keystone Cup, winning Bronze in 1998. History The Hearst Elans joined the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League in 1997. In their first season, the Elans finished in first place and won the league's playoffs. They moved on to face the Fort William Hurricanes for the William Ryan Trophy as Northern Ontario Junior B Champions and were victorious. They moved on to the Keystone Cup, the Western Canadian Championship, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Elans would win the Bronze Medal Game. In 1998-99, the Elans again finished first in the league, and again won their league's playoffs. Hearst, Ontario
Hearst is a town in the district of Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Mattawishkwia River in Northern Ontario, approximately west of Kapuskasing, approximately east of Thunder Bay along Highway 11. At Hearst, Highway 583 extends northward to Lac-Sainte-Thérèse and southward to Jogues, Coppell and Mead. Just over 96% of the town's resident's speak French as their mother language, the highest proportion in Ontario. History The town was established as a divisional point of the National Transcontinental Railway in 1913, 208 km west of Cochrane and 201 km east of the divisional point of Grant. There is some indeterminacy with the name Grant as the original site of Hearst was also called Grant and was changed to Hearst in 1911. Keystone Junior Hockey League
The Keystone Junior Hockey League (KJHL) is a Junior 'B' ice hockey league in the province of Manitoba, Canada. The league, sanctioned by Hockey Manitoba, was formerly known as the Manitoba Junior 'B' Hockey League. History The KJHL champion used to play the champion of the Northwest Junior Hockey League (NJHL) for the Baldy Northcott Trophy. Since the demise of the NJHL in 2004, the KJHL has been the only Junior 'B' league in the province; thus its champion has been awarded the provincial title. The provincial champion moves on to compete for the Western Canadian Junior 'B' championship, the Keystone Cup. Campbell River Storm
The Campbell River Storm are a Junior "B" ice hockey team based in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the North Division of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL). The Storm play their home games at Rod Brind'Amour Arena. Lee Stone has been the coach since 2013. They are captained by defenceman Kyle Jennings. The Storm joined the league in 1997 as an expansion team. In its VIJHL history, the team has won the Cyclone Taylor Cup twice, in 1999 and 2015. The Storm have won the Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy ten times in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2015, 2017 and 2018. They won the Andy Hebenton Trophy seven times, as the team with the league's best regular season record in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2018. The 2018 Global T20 Canada (also known as Canada Dry Global T20 Canada for sponsorship reasons) of the Global T20 Canada, was a 20-over cricket cricket tournament played in Canada. It was the first edition of the tournament and ran from 28 June to 15 July 2018. Six teams took part, with all the matches played at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, Ontario. A player draft took place on 3 June 2018. Approximately 1,600 players registered for the draft, with 600 of those from Canada. Selkirk Fishermen
The Selkirk Fishermen are a junior "B" ice hockey team based in Selkirk, Manitoba. They are members of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League (CRJHL). The franchise was founded in 1917. They are the longest running junior hockey team in Canada. The Fishermen won the Abbott Cup in 1920, making them the Junior Champion for Western Canada and earning a playoff against the George Richardson Memorial Trophy winning Eastern Champion for the Memorial Cup. The Fishermen lost the Memorial Cup competition against the Toronto Canoe Club Paddlers. History Since 1978, the Fishermen have won a province-leading 11 Baldy Northcott Trophy championships as Manitoba Junior B champions.
