Healy (surname)
The English-language surname Healy is in use by three separate ancestral lines of people from Ireland. When Irish people began to anglicise their names, two separate clans adopted the English-language surname of "Healy". There was the Ó hÉilidhe clan from Connaught and the Ó hÉalaighthe clan from Munster. Many different spellings of the surname exist including Haly, Haley, Haily, Healey, Hely, O'Healey and O'Haly. Cahir Healy
Cahir Healy (2 December 1877 – 8 February 1970) was an Irish politician. Background Born in Mountcharles in County Donegal, he became a journalist working on various local papers. He joined Sinn Féin on its foundation in 1905. He later campaigned against the inclusion of County Fermanagh and County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, arguing that they had an Irish nationalist majority (see Partition of Ireland). He was interned with 300 others on the prison ship HMS Argenta for eighteen months from July 1922. Healy is quoted on the reasons for his arrest and internment: "All my life, I have been a man of peace. It is not, therefore, because they feared that I would disturb the peace of Northern Ireland that they dragged me away from my wife and family, but for political reasons. Daniel Healy
Daniel Healy (born 3 May 1974) is a former Australian rules footballer, who played for St Kilda in the Australian Football League and for Central District in the South Australian National Football League. Healy was taken in the first round, pick number 6 overall, of the 1995 AFL Draft, and made his debut against West Coast in Round 12 1996. In this match he scored one goal and this was the only game he played during the year. In the 1997 AFL season, Healy became a regular starter and played 15 games, scoring 5 goals. Colin Healy (born 14 March 1980) is a former midfield footballer from Ireland. He has been manager of Cork City F.C. since late 2020. He started his senior career at Celtic, spending five years with the Scottish club before joining English side Sunderland in 2003, where he spent three years. He returned to Scotland in 2006 to sign for Livingston. After a short spell with Livingston he returned to England to join Barnsley. Cian Healy (born 7 October 1987) is an Irish rugby union rugby player. He plays for Leinster, and has also won over 100 caps for the Ireland national team. He was named as part of the Lions squad for the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia, but withdrew due to injury playing only twice. William Raymond "Chip" Healy Jr. (August 16, 1947 – October 8, 2019) was a professional American football player, who played linebacker for the St. Louis Cardinals. After retiring from football in 1970, Healy moved around Tennessee working for his father's brokerage business, before retiring in 1987. Since 2001, he operated Transitional Living in Nashville, Tennessee, known as "Chip's Place", a treatment and living facility for men struggling with alcoholism, which initially included Healy himself.
