Allen Hazen
Allen Hazen (August 28, 1869 – July 26, 1930) was an expert in hydraulics, flood control, water purification and sewage treatment. His career extended from 1888 to 1930 and he is, perhaps, best known for his contributions to hydraulics with the Hazen-Williams equation. Hazen published some of the seminal works on sedimentation and filtration. He was President of the New England Water Works Association and Vice President of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Early life and education Hazen was born in 1869 on his family farm located near the Connecticut River close to the small town of Norwich, Vermont. Chester Hazen
Chester Hazen (January 31, 1824April 24, 1900) was an American farmer, Republican politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was the 29th mayor of Ripon, Wisconsin, and served one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Fond du Lac County. He established the first cheese factory in Wisconsin. Biography Born in Denmark, New York, Hazen moved to Wisconsin Territory in 1844. He eventually settled on a farm in Ladoga, Wisconsin, where he started the first cheese factory in Wisconsin. Hazen also helped found the Fond du Lac Dairyman Association and the Wisconsin Dairyman Association. Hazen served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1885 to 1886. John Douglas Hazen
Sir John Douglas Hazen, (June 5, 1860 – December 27, 1937) was a politician in New Brunswick, Canada. Biography Known by his second name, Douglas, he entered politics in 1885 when he was elected as an alderman for Fredericton City Council. He became mayor in 1888. Hazen was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Conservative candidate in the 1891 federal election. He lost his seat in the 1896 election that defeated the Conservatives and brought Wilfrid Laurier's Liberals to power. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in 1899, and became leader of the opposition. Hazen rebuilt the Conservative Party which had been out of power since 1883. He led the party into government in the 1908 provincial election. Moses Hazen (June 1, 1733 – February 5, 1803) was a brigadier general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Born in the Province of Massachusetts Bay, he saw action in the French and Indian War with Rogers' Rangers. His service included particularly brutal raids, during the Expulsion of the Acadians and the 1759 Siege of Quebec. He was formally commissioned into the British Army, shortly before the war ended, and retired on half-pay outside Montreal, Province of Quebec, where he and Gabriel Christie, another British officer, made extensive land purchases in partnership. During his lifetime he acquired land in Quebec, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York, but lost most of his Quebec land due to litigation, with Christie and the negative effects of the Revolution. Robert Leonard Hazen (15 October 1808 – 15 August 1874) was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician. Hazen was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and by age 23 had been called to the bar of New Brunswick. He had a successful legal career, and by 1846 was appointed a judge on the Court of the Vice-Admiralty. He first entered politics in 1837 when he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. Upon Canadian Confederation he was appointed to the new Senate of Canada on 23 October 1867 by royal proclamation. He represented the senatorial division of New Brunswick until his death. William Babcock Hazen (September 27, 1830 – January 16, 1887) was a career United States Army officer who served in the Indian Wars, as a Union general in the American Civil War, and as Chief Signal Officer of the U.S. Army. His most famous service was defending "Hell's Half Acre" at the Battle of Stones River in 1862, and seizing Fort McAllister, Georgia, in December 1864, which allowed William Sherman to capture Savannah at the end of his March to the Sea.
