Hazel P. Heath
Hazel P. Heath (née Parris; December 9, 1909 – May 29, 1998) was an American politician and an entrepreneur who manufactured and sold gift boxes of jams and jellies made of wild local berries from Homer, Alaska. She founded "Alaska Wild Berry Products" with her husband Ken in 1946. The couple also owned an art shop and gallery, and she was arts and crafts editor for ''Alaska'' magazine. Heath served as mayor of Homer for eight years, and was a National Republican delegate and a member of many local, state and federal boards and commissions. She was a founder of the Pratt Museum, and was the first woman president of the Alaska Municipal League Conference of Mayors. The Homer Chamber of Commerce named her the 1977 "Citizen of the Year", and the University of Alaska honored her with a Meritorious Service Award in 1989. Athena is a city in Umatilla County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,126 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pendleton– Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Athena, about halfway between Pendleton, Oregon, and Walla Walla, Washington, was originally called Centerville. However, confusion about the name sometimes arose because Oregon had another Centerville, in Washington County, and the state of Washington had a Centerville, in Klickitat County. In 1889, local government officials asked the Centerville school principal, D. W. Jarvis, to recommend a different name. He chose ''Athena'' after the Greek goddess, and they agreed. Alaska Women's Hall Of Fame
The Alaska Women's Hall of Fame (AWHF) recognizes women natives or residents of the U.S. state of Alaska for their significant achievements or statewide contributions. It was conceived by the board of directors of the Alaska Women's Network (AWN) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Alaska Statehood Act, Alaska's statehood. The large inaugural class of fifty women were inducted weeks after that anniversary, on March 6, 2009, with subsequent classes inducted every year since. As of the class of 2015, 135 women and one organization, the Sisters of Providence (Montreal), Sisters of Providence, have been honored. The principal organizations involved with the AWHF are the Zonta Club of Anchorage, the YWCA USA, YWCA, Alaska Women for Political Action, the Anchorage Women's Commission, the University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Women's Network and the ATHENA Society.
