	Hayes High School (Birmingham, Alabama) Carol W. Hayes High School was a public 9–12 high school in Birmingham, Alabama. It was closed after the 2007–08 school year. History The school was established in September 1960 in Avondale, in the eastern section of Birmingham. It is named for Dr. Carol William Hayes, the city's former "Director of Negro Schools". The school added a twelfth grade in 1961, and the first seniors graduated in May 1962. Hayes remained an all-black high school until it was desegregated in 1970. Carol W. Hayes High School graduated senior classes from 1962 to 1989, when it was converted into a middle school. In 2003 it reverted to a high school, and graduated its first class in sixteen years in 2005. 	Cardinal Hayes High School Cardinal Hayes High School is an American Catholic high school for boys in the Concourse Village neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City, New York. The school serves the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. It is a member of the Catholic High School Athletic Association. The building was constructed in the Art Deco style. It is named after Cardinal Patrick Joseph Hayes, a previous archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. History Cardinal Hayes was dedicated on September 8, 1941, by Archbishop Spellman. Cardinal Hayes' current rival is Mount Saint Michael Academy. The two schools' football teams have met annually since 1942 on Thanksgiving Day. Cardinal Hayes also takes part in non-annual football rivalries with Cardinal Spellman High School and Archbishop Stepinac High School for the Fathers' Club Trophy and the Father John Dubois Memorial Trophy, respectively. 	Max S ''Empire Alderney'' was a 288-ton coastal tanker which was built in 1943. She was renamed ''Mil 50'' in 1946 and ''Max S'' in 1955. Her fate is unknown, last being registered in the Cayman Islands in 1980. History ''Empire Alderney'' was built by J. Harker Ltd., Knottingley as yard number 166. She had a Crossley engine. ''Empire Alderney'' was launched on 11 December 1943 and completed in June 1944. She was built for the Ministry of War Transport and managed by T J Metcalf. In 1946, ''Empire Alderney'' was sold to Norsk Tankanlaeg of Norway and renamed ''Mil 50''. She served with them for nine years and was sold to Partenrederei Max S, West Germany in 1955, being renamed ''Max S''.
