Hawthorn Football Club (AFL Women's)
The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club plays in the AFL Women's (AFLW) and, from 2018 until 2022, the VFL Women's (VFLW). The team is associated with the Hawthorn men's team. History 2021–present: Foundation In 2016, The AFL announced the creation of the AFL Women's league with all 18 clubs asked to submit a bid to become one of the inaugural clubs. Hawthorn would be one of five clubs who chose not to submit a bid. In 2017, following a successful debut season the AFL would announce the league would expand from the 2019 season. Unlike 2016, Hawthorn would this time submit a bid to join the league. They would ultimately be unsuccessful. Aileen Gilroy
Aileen Gilroy (born 1 March 1993) is an Australian rules footballer playing for Hawthorn in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Gilroy signed with North Melbourne as a rookie during the 2019 rookie signing period in August. She made her debut against Melbourne at Casey Fields in the opening round of the 2020 season. Australian rules football career On 30 August 2019, Gilroy signed with North Melbourne as a rookie during the 2019 rookie signing period, joining her fellow countrywoman Mairéad Seoighe at the club. Quickly establishing herself as a fan-favourite, Gilroy made 7 appearances for the Kangaroos in 2020, averaging almost 10 disposals a game, and finished fifth in the best-and-fairest count. 22 Under 22 Team
The 22 Under 22 team (stylised as 22under22) is an honorary representative Australian rules football team created by the AFL Players' Association that seeks to recognise the best young talent in the Australian Football League (AFL) and AFL Women's (AFLW) competitions each year. To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 or under for the entire season (including finals). An initial squad of 40 is selected by the AFL Players' Board, before fans select a final team of 22 by voting via social media. Selection process The 22 Under 22 team is the only AFL award decided by fans. Supporters were asked to pick their best teams via Facebook, or vote for individual players via Twitter. 2018 VFL Women's Season
The 2018 VFL Women's season was the third season of the VFL Women's (VFLW). The season commenced on 5 May and concluded with the Grand Final on 23 September 2018. The competition was contested by thirteen clubs. Clubs Significant overhaul and changes were made to composition of the competition ahead of the 2018 season. With the establishment of the national AFL Women's competition in 2017, the league sought to affiliate clubs more closely to existing AFL/AFLW clubs. David Mackay (born 25 July 1988) is a retired professional Australian rules football player who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by the club at pick 48 in the 2006 National Draft. Pre-AFL career Mackay came from Melbourne side, Oakleigh Chargers and appeared in the 2006 Victorian U/18 Metro side where he was inspirational in the grand final. Max Lynch (born 12 September 1998) is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), having been initially drafted to the Collingwood Football Club. Louise Wotton (born 8 November 1983) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Early life and state football Wotton played 13 seasons with the VWFL.
