Hawkfest
Hawkfest is three-day outdoor weekend festival organised and centered on Hawkwind. The event is open only to members of their fanclub and is limited to around 1000 attendees. The stated intention is to recreate the atmosphere of festivals of old, as an alternative to the currently heavily commercialised events, and to make the whole event as family-friendly as possible with side attractions and workshops. 2002 *Date: 19–21 July 2002 *Location: Three Horseshoes Farm, nr. Hawkwind
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are also regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton. However, the band are most closely associated with their founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who is the only remaining original member. Hawkwind are best known for the song "Silver Machine", which became a number-three UK hit single in 1972, but they scored further hit singles with "Urban Guerrilla" (another Top 40 hit) and "Shot Down in the Night". Seaton, Devon
Seaton () is a seaside town, fishing harbour and civil parish in East Devon on the south coast of England, between Axmouth (to the east) and Beer, Devon, Beer (to the west). It faces onto Lyme Bay and is on the Dorset and East Devon Coast Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Captain Rizz
Captain Rizzis a musician and community organiser in London, where he volunteered at the T. Chances community centre in Tottenham. As a vocalist for Hawkwind from 1997 to 2000, he was described as a "Space Reggae toaster". He ran for Parliament several times, associated with Make Politicians History, on the Rizz Party ticket. In the 1992 General Election he ran for the Parliamentary seat in Hampstead and Highgate. In the 1997 General Election, he ran for the seat in Hampstead and Highgate seat, as well as the seat in Lewisham East.
