Hawi ( haw, Hāwī; ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii. The population was 2,268 at the time of the 2020 United States Census. Hawi is situated to the west of the community of Kapaau. Together, they comprise the most densely-populated region in the district of North Kohala. Historically this part of Kohala is significant as the birthplace of Kamehameha I and the location of the Mookini heiau in the Kohala Historical Sites State Monument. The two communities were once busy commercial centers during the operation of the Kohala Sugar plantation. Hawi is the turnaround point for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon. ''Hawi'' () is a 2010 Egyptian film directed by Ibrahim El Batout, starred by Mohamed El Sayed, Sherif El Dessouki and Mirette El Hariri. Shot in Alexandria using non-professional actors and a volunteer crew, the film is inspired by the alternative cinema of Jean-Luc Godard, Dziga Vertov and Abbas Kiarostami. Synopsis Youssef, Ibrahim and Fady spent 20 years in the same prison. Youssef has just been released in order to find several confidential documents. George Hawi
George Hawi ( ar, جورج حاوي; born 5 November 1938 – 21 June 2005) was a Lebanese politician and former secretary general of the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP). An outspoken critic of Syrian interference in Lebanese affairs, he was killed in 2005 by a bomb placed under the passenger seat of his car. Lebanese people accused the Syrian government of assassinating him. He was the stepfather of the Lebanese Armenian politician Rafi Madayan, who also has a stepson, Charbel Khalifeh Hachem. Early life and career George Hawi was born in the village of Bteghrine, Lebanon on 5 November 1938 to a Lebanese family. Khalil Hawi
Khalil Hawi (Arabic: خليل حاوي; Transliterated Khalīl Ḥāwī) (1919-1982) was one of the most famous Lebanese poets of the 20th century. In 1982, upon the Israeli invasion of Beirut in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War, Hawi committed suicide with a rifle in his apartment near the American University of Beirut. William Amine Hawi (also written: William Haoui, ar, وليم أمين حاوي; September 5, 1908 – July 13, 1976) was a Lebanese commander of the Kataeb Party ( ar, الكتائب اللبنانية) better known in English as the Phalange, a right-wing Christian political party in Lebanon. He was Head of the second and Fourth Districts, President of the Recruitment Bureau, Head of the Department of Security, Sport and Mobilization on May 29, 1952, and member of the Political Bureau on July 12, 1952. On June 16, 1958, William Hawi was in charge of organizing and leading the activists during the Lebanese events; this constituted the hub of the Party's Regulatory Forces.
