Hawaiian Islanders
The Hawaiian Islanders were a minor league team of the Arena Football League's developmental league, the AF2. Based in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Hawaiian Islanders home field was at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center Arena. It competed in the AF2 National Conference West. They were owned by Charles Wang, who also owned the New York Islanders and the AFL's New York Dragons. The Islanders were an affiliate of the Dragons, along with the short-lived New Haven Ninjas. The team existed from 2002 to 2004. The Islanders were coached by Guy Benjamin and Chad Carlson in 2002. In 2003, they were coached by Cal Lee, who had been coaching high school football at Hawaii's St. Louis School for the past 20 seasons. Fullback Josh White played with the Islanders before playing in the AFL. The team disbanded after the 2004 season. Josh White (American Football)
Josh White (born March 8, 1977) is a former American football fullback who played six seasons in the Arena Football League with the New York Dragons, Austin Wranglers, Dallas Desperados, Dallas Vigilantes and Chicago Rush. He enrolled at Snow College before transferring to University of California, Berkeley. White was also a member of the Hawaiian Islanders and Utah Blaze. Early years White first played high school football at Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. He transferred to Farrington High School in Honolulu his senior year after the military transferred his stepfather to North Carolina. He earned first team all-state honors as a running back. He is blind in his left eye due to a childhood accident when he was one. College career White first played college football for the Snow Badgers of Snow College. The Hawaiians (WFL)
The Hawaiians were a professional American football team based in Honolulu that played in the World Football League. They played two seasons, 1974 and 1975. Their records were 9–11 in 1974 and 4–7–1 in 1975. Their home stadium was Honolulu Stadium in 1974 and Aloha Stadium in 1975. The best known player to play for the Hawaiians was former Dallas Cowboys running back Calvin Hill, though quarterback Jim Fassel became better known as a head coach decades later. The Hawaiians head coach was Michael Giddings who guided the Hawaiians through both the 1974 and 1975 World Football League seasons. The franchise was originally going to be called the Honolulu Warriors, but a local team had trademarked that name. Wichita Stealth
The Wichita Stealth was an arena football team. They played their home games at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kansas. They originally began play in the original incarnation of the Indoor Football League as a 2000 expansion team known as the Wichita Warlords before the league folded, in which they moved to the AF2 and became the Stealth. They only got to the playoffs once during their five-year existence, where they had an early exit (courtesy of the Hawaiian Islanders). After an 8-8 season in 2004, the team officially disbanded and ceased all operations. After Intrust Bank Arena opened, there were rumors that the Stealth might be reincarnated, but the talks died down, and nothing ever surfaced. Kanoa Leahey
James Kanoa Leahey, known as Kanoa Leahey, is a play-by-play announcer for UH sports and high school sports on Spectrum Sports, and for college basketball on the ESPN networks. He was also a former sports reporter for KHON-TV, the Honolulu Fox affiliate; and a former co-host of Leahey & Leahey, a weekly talk show featured on PBS Hawaii with his father, Jim (Leahey & Leahey Live). Following the death of longtime commentator Robert Kekaula, Leahey became the TV voice of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors football in 2021. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Iolani School alum got his first job as a sports reporter at KITV, Honolulu's ABC affiliate. Cal Lee (born October 20, 1946) is an American football coach who is currently the defensive coordinator at Saint Louis School in Honolulu. A former assistant head coach for the University of Hawaii football team, Lee was a successful high school football coach prior to joining the staff at the University of Hawaii in 2003. High school coaching career Known as one of the nation's most successful high school coaches, Lee led the St. Louis Crusaders to 14 Prep Bowl titles, 18 Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships, and the inaugural HHSAA State Championship in 1999. In his 21 seasons with the Crusaders, Lee compiled a 241–32–5 record.
