Kingdom Of Hawaii
The Hawaiian Kingdom, or Kingdom of Hawaiʻi ( Hawaiian: ''Ko Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina''), was a sovereign state located in the Hawaiian Islands. The country was formed in 1795, when the warrior chief Kamehameha the Great, of the independent island of Hawaiʻi, conquered the independent islands of Oʻahu, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi and unified them under one government. In 1810, the whole Hawaiian archipelago became unified when Kauaʻi and Niʻihau joined the Hawaiian Kingdom voluntarily. Two major dynastic families ruled the kingdom: the House of Kamehameha and the House of Kalākaua. The kingdom won recognition from the major European powers. The United States became its chief trading partner and watched over it to prevent other powers (such as Britain and Japan) from asserting hegemony. Della Au Belatti (born March 14, 1974, in Manoa, Hawaii) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives since January 2007 representing District 24. Belatti served consecutively from January 2007 until 2013 in the District 25 seat. The district includes Makiki and Tantalus, along with portions of McCully and Papakolea on the island of Oahu. Education Belatti graduated with an A.B. in history from Princeton University in 1996 after completing an 82-page long senior thesis, titled "A Study of Education in Hawaii, 1945-1959: Change and Continuity in Three Schools", under the supervision of Stephen Aron. Charles Crane
Charles Spencer Crane (January 4, 1869 – September 13, 1958) was a businessman and politician in Hawaii. Life Crane was born in Honolulu on January 4, 1869, the son of a whaler captain Ezra Dean Crane and Emma Ann Still Crane. He started working at the Honolulu telephone company. In February 1897 he worked in the business department of the Hawaiian Gazette Company, became assistant manager of the Gazette in 1900, and in November 1905 became manager of the publishing company. From 1908 to 1919 he published a Hawaiian language newspaper called ''Ka Nupepa Kuokoa''. Crane married Emma Spurrell Thompson on October 16, 1922, at Hilo. He eventually became executive vice president of what would become the ''Honolulu Advertiser''. After ''Advertiser'' owner Lorrin A. Campbell "Cam" Cavasso (born October 14, 1950), is an American politician, businessman and perennial candidate. A Republican, Cavasso served three terms in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991, and would later run for both chambers of the United States Congress in 2004, 2010, 2014, and 2018. Born in San Francisco, Cavasso moved with his family to Oahu at a young age. He graduated from University of Colorado Boulder after serving in ROTC, and also spent five years in the United States Army, rising to the rank of captain. Cavasso entered politics in the 1980s, first winning election to the state House of Representatives from District 20 (encompassing parts of Oahu) in 1984. Edward Espenett Case
Edward Espenett Case (born September 27, 1952) is an American lawyer and Democratic politician serving as the U.S. representative for Hawaii's 1st congressional district, which covers the urban core of Honolulu. He represented the 2nd district, which covers the rest of the state, from 2002 to 2007. A Blue Dog Democrat, Case first came to prominence in Hawaii as majority leader of the Hawaii State Legislature and in his 2002 campaign for governor of Hawaii. Romeo Munoz Cachola, commonly known as Romy Cachola, is a Democratic politician from the state of Hawaii and former member of the Hawaii State House of Representatives, representing House District 30 (Kalihi Kai, Sand Island, Hickam, Pearl Harbor, Ford Island, and Halawa Valley Estate) since 2012. Robert Bunda
Robert "Bobby" Bunda (born April 25, 1947) is a former Democratic member of the Hawaii Senate, representing the 22nd District from 1994 through 2010, when he resigned his position in an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. Previously he was a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1983 through 1994. He is the first Filipino American to attain the presidency of any state legislature in the United States. Keiko Cecilia Bonk (born 1954) is an American artist, musician and politician from Hawaii. Bonk co-founded the Hawaii Green Party and was the first person in North America elected to a partisan level office as a member of the Green Party of the United States. In the US most local elected offices are nonpartisan, meaning the candidate is not running as a member of a political party. State and federal offices are partisan, meaning that the candidates represent political parties. In Hawaii local government, such as county government, traditionally involved declaring your political party. James Henderson Blount
James Henderson Blount (September 12, 1837 – March 8, 1903) was an American statesman, soldier and congressman from Georgia. He opposed the annexation of Hawaii in 1893 in his investigation into the American involvement in the political revolution in the Kingdom of Hawai'i. Early life Blount was born near Clinton, Jones County, Georgia. He attended private schools there and in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens in 1858. He studied law and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1859. During the American Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army as a private in the Second Georgia Battalion, Floyd Rifles for two years, and was later lieutenant colonel for two years.
