The team is a member of the Centennial Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III. Haverford's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1901. The team plays its home games at Walton Field on the Haverford campus. The Fords are coached by Zach Ward. Haverford College Fords
The Haverford Fords compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Centennial Conference. The program has a modest history in collegiate athletics. Haverford boasts the only Varsity team, varsity cricket team in the United States. Its men's and women's track and field and cross country running, cross country teams are perennial powerhouses in their division. The outdoor track and field team won the first 16 Centennial Conference championships, and men's cross country has won all but two Centennial Conference championships. The soccer team is among the nation's oldest, having won its first intercollegiate match in 1905 against Harvard College. The lacrosse team has placed well nationally in the NCAA championships, while Haverford's fencing (sport), fencing team has competed since the early 1930s. James Gentle
James Cuthbert Gentle (July 21, 1904 – May 22, 1986) was an American soccer striker, field hockey player, soldier, and golfer. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Youth Born outside Boston in Brookline, Massachusetts, Gentle grew up in his hometown, attended Brookline High School. In 1922, he entered the University of Pennsylvania where he played football as a freshman. He switched to soccer and track for his next three years at Penn, earning first team All American honors for soccer in 1924 and 1925. Gentle graduated from the university's Wharton School with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1926. Active in student government, Gentle was his class president and a member of the Mask and Wig and Varsity Club. 1945 Haverford Fords Men's Soccer Team
The 1945 Haverford Fords men's soccer team represented Haverford College during the 1945 ISFL season. It was the Fords 46th season as a varsity program. The Fords finished the 1945 with an undefeated 6-0 record, winning both the Middle Atlantic States Athletic Conference championship, and the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Soccer League championship. Due to World War II, there was no formal national champion declared by ISFA at this time, although the college, along with three other colleges (Army, Navy, and Yale) self-declared themselves as champions for the 1945 ISFA season. This has since been recognized by the American Soccer History Archives as a claimed national title. To date, this is the most recent year Haverford won a national soccer championship at any level. The 1906–07 Haverford Fords men's soccer team represented Haverford College during the 1906–07 IAFL season, and the 1906–07 ACCL season. It was the Fords sixth season of existence. The Fords entered the season as the two-time defending ISFA National Champions and successfully defended their title. Despite a losing record across all matches, Haverford accumulated a 3–0–1 record in the ISFA matches which guaranteed the Fords their national title, as having the best record amongst collegiate programs. Jimmy Mills (1 July 1894 – 8 October 1990) was a Scottish-American soccer wing-half and coach. He gained his greatest fame as a coach, taking his teams to five league, three league cup titles and two McGuire Cup titles In 1956, he coached the US Olympic soccer team at the 1956 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Player Born in Dundee, Mills moved first to Paisley then to Bridgeton, Glasgow as a young boy.
