Haughton Castle
Haughton Castle is a privately owned country mansion and Grade I listed building, situated to the north of the village of Humshaugh on the west bank of the North Tyne. Hawton
Hawton is an English village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, about two miles (3.2 km) south of town of Newark-on-Trent, near the River Devon, a tributary of the River Trent. Its population was recorded as 147 in the 2011 Census. Historical role Hawton played an important part in the English Civil War as a Roundhead encampment against the Royalist stronghold in Newark. Redoubt earthworks from that time are still visible in the village. The Grade I listed parish church of All Saints was erected in the 14th and 15th centuries. In the early 14th century, the first manorial building was put up by the de Compton family on an earlier site in the demesne. Sir Thomas Molyneux added the clerestory and tower to the church, which boldly overlooks the flood plain of the River Trent. Haughton Hall
Haughton Hall is an early 18th-century country house situated at Haughton Lane, Shifnal, Shropshire, England now converted for use as a hotel. It is a Grade II* listed building. The de Haughton family owned land at Haughton under the Lord of the Manor of Shifnal as early as 1185. The estate passed to Sir John Charlton early in the 14th century and by the marriage of a Charlton heiress to Richard Moreton in the early 16th century. The Moreton heiress Anne married Humphrey Brigges of Ernestry in 1587 and the Briggs Baronets occupied the estate until the death of the 5th and last Baronet in 1767. The present house was built in 1718 by Sir Humphrey Briggs, 4th Baronet, MP for Wenlock, originally in red brick, with two storeys and attics and a seven bay frontage. Haughton–Mars Project
The Haughton–Mars Project (HMP) is an international interdisciplinary field research project being carried out near the Haughton impact crater on Canada's northern Devon Island. Human-centered computing (HCC) studies are aimed at determining how human explorers might live and work on other planetary objects, in particular on Mars. Conducted jointly by SETI and the Mars Institute, the project's goal is to utilize the Mars-like features of Devon Island and the impact crater to develop and test new technologies and field operating procedures, and to study the human dynamics which result from extended contact in close quarters. This knowledge will be used in planning missions by both humans and robots to other terrestrial bodies. The HMP came about as a postdoctoral research proposal by Pascal Lee, then a Cornell University graduate student. Haughton Impact Crater
Haughton impact crater is located on Devon Island, Nunavut in far Northern Canada. It is about in diameter and was formed 31-32 million years ago during the Early Oligocene. The impacting object is estimated to have been approximately in diameter. Devon Island itself is composed of Paleozoic shale and siltstone overlying gneissic bedrock. When the crater formed, the shale and siltstone were peeled back to expose the basement; material from as deep as has been identified. Description At 75° north latitude, it is one of the highest-latitude impact craters known. The temperature is below the freezing point of water for much of the year, and the limited vegetation is slow-growing, leading to very little weathering. For this reason Haughton retains many geological features that lower-latitude craters lose to erosion. Haughton, Cheshire
Haughton (or Haughton Moss) is a village and civil parish which lies northwest of Nantwich in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. According to the 2001 Census, its population was 223, reducing to 204 at the 2011 Census, and has four fully active farms. Landmarks The Nags Head public house, a half-timbered building dating back to 1629, is situated in the village. It closed at the end of 2019. A war memorial mounted on a brick plinth on Long Lane was originally from neighbouring Radmore Green chapel.
