Harry Tappen Beach, Marina, and Pool (commonly referred to simply as Tappen Beach) is a town-owned park in Glenwood Landing, in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is located within and is operated by the Town of Oyster Bay. Description Tappen Beach is located along the eastern shore of Hempstead Harbor. It is also known as East Beach. Amenities at Tappen Beach include the beach, a marina, playground facilities, and a saltwater pool. In 1977, the pool at Tappen Beach, which was roughly 50 years old, was shut down because it was deemed to be unsafe by inspectors. It was replaced at a cost of roughly $731,000 (1983 USD). While the park was historically only accessible to residents of the town of Oyster Bay, the pool renovations were funded in part by federal dollars from the National Park Service, and federal laws required that the town open the park to the rest of the general public. Glenwood Landing is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York. The population was 3,779 at the time of the 2010 census. Glenwood Landing is mainly within the Town of Oyster Bay but a small section in the southwest corner is in the Town of North Hempstead. It is a part of the North Shore School District. The Town of Oyster Bay is the easternmost of the three towns which make up Nassau County, New York, United States. Part of the New York metropolitan area, it is the only town in Nassau County to extend from the North Shore to the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 301,332. Hempstead Harbor
Hempstead Harbor (also known as Hempstead Bay) is a bay hugging the northern coast of Long Island, New York. Located off of the Long Island Sound, it forms the northernmost portion of the political border between the Nassau County towns of Oyster Bay on the east and North Hempstead on the west, as well as the western border of the city of Glen Cove. History Before World War I, shacks were built on the marsh flats in the town-owned Hempstead Bay wetlands. They served as shelters for duck hunters, fishermen and weekend campers. Tobay Beach is a restricted access recreational beach located in the middle of Jones Beach Island, a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island, Nassau County, New York, United States, within the Massapequa 11758 Zip code. Its name is a portmanteau for the Town of Oyster Bay, which owns and manages the beach. Residents of the town are allowed entry, with limited access for non-residents. History Tobay Beach was opened to the public sometime between 1926 and 1949, and has been owned and operated by the Town of Oyster Bay since its opening date.
