Harry Skinner (politician)
Harry Skinner (May 25, 1855 – May 19, 1929) was an American lawyer and politician who served two terms as a U.S. Representative from North Carolina from 1895 to 1899’ He was the brother of U.S. Representative Thomas Gregory Skinner. Early life and education Skinner was born in Perquimans County, North Carolina, near Hertford, on May 25, 1855. He was a member of a wealthy political family; his father, James C. Skinner, was a state senator and clerk of the county court, and his grandfather, also named Harry Skinner, had served in both houses of the North Carolina legislature. He attended Hertford Academy and was graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law at Lexington. He was admitted to the bar in 1876 and commenced practice in Greenville, North Carolina. The 55th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. John Humphrey Small
John Humphrey Small (August 29, 1858 – July 13, 1946) was an American attorney and politician who served eleven terms as a U.S. Representative from North Carolina from 1899 to 1921. Early life and education Born in Washington, North Carolina, Small attended private schools and Trinity College (later Duke University), Durham, North Carolina, where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He taught school from 1876 to 1880 and studied law as a legal apprentice. He was admitted to the bar in 1881. Career Small started a legal practice in his hometown of Washington, North Carolina. Small was elected a reading clerk of the North Carolina State Senate in 1881, the year he was admitted to the bar.
