Harry Melrose
Harry Melrose (born 31 May 1935) is a Scottish former professional football player and manager. Club career A winger, Melrose started his playing career for Rangers. His only appearance for the Gers was in the Scottish League Cup semi-final in September 1957, scoring twice in a 4–0 win over Brechin City. He made his name at Dunfermline Athletic after arriving on a free transfer in May 1958. A stalwart of Jock Stein's side of the early 60's, he made 271 appearances and scored 106 goals, including 6 goals, (a joint club record shared with Charlie Dickson) in a game against Partick Thistle in April 1959. He left East End Park in October 1965 and signed for Aberdeen for a fee of £10,000. He was captain of the Dons from 1966 to 1968. Jens Petersen (22 December 1941 – 8 March 2012) was a Danish football player and manager. He was born in Esbjerg. During his playing career he played as a defender for Esbjerg fB and Varde IF in Denmark, Aberdeen in Scotland, SK Rapid Wien in Austria, and Racing Mechelen in Belgium. He earned a total of 22 caps for the Danish national side, but his international career was ended when he turned professional and joined Aberdeen. 1964–65 Scottish Division One
The 1964–65 Scottish Division One was won by Kilmarnock on goal average, ahead of Hearts. Airdrieonians and Third Lanark finished 17th and 18th respectively and were relegated to the 1965-66 Second Division. In one of the closest finishes ever seen in a league competition in Britain, Hearts played Kilmarnock at Tynecastle on the last day of the season, holding a two point lead over the Ayrshire club and a slightly better goal average. Kilmarnock had to beat Hearts by 2–0, or by a greater winning margin, to win the title. Any result better than a 2–0 defeat for Hearts, including other two goal losing margins where Hearts scored six goals or more (e.g. 6-8) would have made Hearts champions. Realistically, Kilmarnock needed to win by two clear goals, which was the result they achieved by defeating Hearts 2–0, giving them a goal average of 1.878 as against Hearts' 1.836.
