Harry Krishnan Tirvengadum
Sir Harry Krishnan Tirvengadum, more commonly known as Harry Tirvengadum or HK Tirvengadum (born 2 September 1933) is a Mauritian who was the Chairman and Managing Director of Air Mauritius. Early life and education Harry Krishnan Tirvengadum was born in Stanley, Beau Bassin-Rose Hill in 1933, one of seven children born to Govinden Tirvengadum, a court interpreter and Meenatchee Sangeelee, a housewife. He completed his secondary education at Royal College Curepipe before travelling to the United Kingdom to study business administration at Oxford University. Family On 30 October 1970, Tirvengadum married Elahe Amin Amin, an Iranian national who was living in Japan. Their three daughters are Shirin Kinoshita, Selina Sheila and Melissa Tirvengadum. Air Mauritius is the flag carrier airline of Mauritius. The airline is headquartered in Port Louis, Mauritius, with its hub based at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (in traditional Hindi: Shivsagar Ram Gulam) (18 September 1900 – 15 December 1985; often referred to as ''Chacha Ramgoolam'' or ''SSR'') was a Mauritian physician, politician, and statesman. He served as the island's only chief minister, first prime minister, and fifth governor-general. He is widely recognized as the nation's founding father (French: ''père de la nation''), although the anti-independence political group at the time of British Mauritius used to call him as a pun in French ''la perte de la nation'' (English: the misleader of the nation). The Caisse Noire Affair was a scandal which exposed the illegal practices within the national airline carrier Air Mauritius between 1981 and 2001. History The illicit bank account had been set up following Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam's request for funds in 1981 to assist ''Advance'' which was the ailing propaganda newspaper of the Labour Party. In October 2001 Gérard Tyack, who was General Manager and Financial Director of Air Mauritius, revealed details of the Swiss bank account in Geneva for the payment to officials of Air Mauritius, journalists and politicians. The funds had also been used to finance political newspapers, electoral campaigns, purchase of private cars for Sir Harry's wife and their daughters' overseas studies. Amédée Maingard
Sir Louis Pierre Rene "Amédée" Maingard de la Ville-ès-Offrans, CBE (21 October 1918 - 1981) was born in Mauritius, then a British colony. During the Second World War, he served with distinction with the British clandestine organization, the Special Operations Executive, supporting the French resistance, and was awarded medals by the British and French governments. After the war he returned to Mauritius and became a successful businessman. Wartime career Maingard was studying in London in 1939 at the outbreak of the Second World War and volunteered for the British Army. Air Afrique was a Pan-Africanism, Pan-African airline, that was mainly owned by many West African countries for most of its history.
