Harry Johnston (footballer, Born 1949)
Harry Grant Forsyth Johnston (born 24 December 1949) is a Scottish retired footballer who played as a midfielder, featuring briefly in the country's top division for Partick Thistle between longer spells with Montrose. He is also a former cricketer who played first-class matches for Scotland in 1975 and 1981. Football career First spell at Montrose Born in Orkney and raised in Aberdeen, Johnston began his career with local Junior club Lewis United, from where he was signed by semi-professional Montrose, then playing in the lower of the two divisions of the Scottish Football League. He was brought in to the ''Gable Endies'' by player-manager Alex Stuart in 1970, around the same time as defenders Dennis D'Arcy and Les Barr arrived. Kirkwall ( sco, Kirkwaa, gd, Bàgh na h-Eaglaise, nrn, Kirkavå) is the largest town in Orkney, an archipelago to the north of mainland Scotland. Forfarshire Cup
The Forfarshire Cup is a football competition in Scotland competed for by teams in the Forfarshire Football Association from Angus, Dundee and Perth. The name of the competition is often baffling to some, as "Forfarshire" is an archaic and anglicised name for Angus which became official in the late 19th century around the time of Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 which restructured and renamed many of Scotland's counties, however the name quickly fell into disuse and was very rarely used in everyday conversation and non existent today. The Forfarshire Football Association was founded in 1883 and comprised eighteen clubs. Twelve from Dundee, two from Arbroath and one each from Broughty Ferry and Lochee (both independent of Dundee at the time), Coupar Angus and Montrose. Links Park
Links Park is a association football, football stadium in Montrose, Angus, Montrose, Scotland. It has been the home ground of Montrose F.C. since 1887. Links Park was opened in 1887 on land rented from the 'Montrose Old and St Andrew's Church, Auld Kirk'. To help finance the new ground, Montrose F.C. rented the pitch out for circuses and livestock grazing. The club was eventually able to raise £150 in 1920 to buy a stand, that had been previously used by the Highland Games. A roof was built over the Wellington Street end of the ground in the 1960s. Floodlights were installed in 1971 and first used in a match against Stranraer F.C., Stranraer. The record attendance at the ground was 8,983, for a Scottish Cup quarter-final tie against Dundee F.C., Dundee in 1972–73 Scottish Cup, March 1973. Dennis D'Arcy (born 30 November 1951) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Alex Stuart (footballer)
Alexander Stuart (born 8 August 1940) is a Scottish former footballer and manager who played as a left-back. Beginning his career in 1958 with Dundee, Stuart went on to spend ten years at Dens Park, winning the Scottish Football League in 1961–62 and gaining a Scottish Cup runners-up medal two years later. In 1969, Stuart moved to city rivals Dundee United but left within the year to become player/manager at Montrose. Stuart spent six years at Links Park. He moved to succeed Ally MacLeod at Premier Division side Ayr United in 1975-76 season. He kept the part-time side in the top flight for two seasons. He had a short, final managerial spell with St Johnstone at the end of the 1970s. Stuart went on to become a sports administrator, working on a project for Dundee and Dundee United to share a youth academy. He is now retired.
