Harry Barton (June 17, 1876 – May 9, 1937) was an American architect in North Carolina. A number of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). WWMS (97.5 FM broadcasting, FM, "Miss 98") is a country music formatted radio station based in Oxford, Mississippi, which serves Tupelo, Mississippi, Tupelo and North Mississippi with an Effective radiated power, ERP of 100,000 watts at 97.5 MHz. WWMS is owned by Mississippi Radio Group. WWMS's studios and offices are located at 2214 South Gloster Street in Tupelo, Mississippi. Programming WWMS was North Mississippi's only full-power FM country station having increased its power to the maximum allowed in July 1985. Its signal can be heard from Memphis, Tennessee, to Columbus, Mississippi; and from the Mississippi Delta to western Alabama. Dobson is a town in Dobson Township, Surry County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 1,396. It is the county seat of Surry County. Dobson is the home of the Shelton Vineyards, the largest winery in North Carolina. It is also home to a significant Latino population due to the large number of farms in the area. The main crops in the area are corn, tobacco and soy beans. History Dobson was established as the county seat in 1853, replacing Rockford after all land in Surry County south of the Yadkin River was used to form Yadkin County. Palmer Memorial Institute Historic District
The Alice Freeman Palmer Memorial Institute, better known as Palmer Memorial Institute, was a school for upper class African Americans. It was founded in 1902 by Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown at Sedalia, North Carolina near Greensboro. Palmer Memorial Institute was named after Alice Freeman Palmer, former president of Wellesley College and benefactor of Dr. Brown. It became, before its closure in the 1970s, a fully accredited, nationally recognized preparatory school. More than 1,000 African American students attended the school between 1902 and 1970. Bennett College purchased the Palmer campus, but in 1980 it sold of the main campus with major surviving buildings to the American Muslim Mission. Siler City, North Carolina
Siler City is a town in western Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 7,702. History Siler City began when Plikard Dederic Siler and his wife, Elizabeth Hartsoe Siler, settled about four miles north of the town's current location. They had met aboard the ''Two Sisters'', a ship from Germany. The ship landed in Philadelphia, where Plikard paid leaf tobacco to marry Elizabeth. The couple briefly lived in Pennsylvania, then Virginia, and then settled near Lacy's Creek (the location near today's Siler City). They had ten children. In recent years, Siler City has become a suburb of Greensboro and the Research Triangle Park.
