Harrogate RUFC
Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club is an English rugby union team based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The club runs four senior sides. The first team play in National League 2 North, having been promoted from the North Premier in 2019–20. The second team, Harrogate Georgians, play in the Yorkshire RFU Merit Premiership and the third team play in the Yorkshire RFU 2 Central/North Merit League. The club also fields a ladies' team completing the four senior teams (Harrogate Ladies) in the RFUW Championship, and eight junior teams (from ages 6 to 16). History The team was founded in 1871 as Harrogate Football Club, the same year as the Rugby Football Union, and played its first match on 16 December that year. Yorkshire Rugby Football Union
The Yorkshire Rugby Football Union is the governing body responsible for rugby union in the historic county of Yorkshire, England. It is one of the constituent bodies of the national Rugby Football Union having formed in 1869, the union was formerly called Yorkshire County Club. The county has won the county championship on 15 occasions, and finished as runners-up on a further eight occasions. The Yorkshire RFU also organises the Yorkshire Cup, which was inaugurated in 1878. 1992–93 Courage National 4 North
The 1992–93 Courage National 4 North was the sixth full season of rugby union within the fourth tier of the English league system, currently known as National League 2 North, and counterpart to the Courage National 4 South (now National League 2 South). Impending changes to the league structure by the RFU meant that several new leagues were to be introduced at the end of the season. This meant that champions Harrogate were promoted into the 1993–94 Division 4 while everyone else fell to Courage League Division 5 North. Relegation was particularly tough on newly promoted Rotherham as they finished level with Harrogate only to lose out to their Yorkshire rivals by virtue of a worse for/against record. Guy Easterby
Guy Easterby (born 21 March 1971) is a former rugby union player for Ireland. He is currently head of rugby operations of Leinster. His father is English and his mother is Irish. He is the brother of Simon Easterby, also an Ireland international and the most capped back-rower to come from Yorkshire. Easterby made his senior Ireland debut against the United States on 10 June 2000 and marked the occasion by scoring two tries in a record 83–3 victory. Easterby made his test debut in the same year as Peter Stringer but always trailed the Munster scrum-half in the Irish pecking order. 21 out of his 27 appearances before the 2005 Six Nations Championship were made as a substitute. Simon Easterby
Simon Easterby (born 21 July 1975 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire) is an Irish former rugby union player. He is currently the defence coach for the Irish national team. Early life Easterby's father is English and his mother Irish. He is the younger brother of Guy Easterby, also an Ireland international. He was educated at Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire and was a member of St Hughs house. Club career Easterby captained the Scarlets for five consecutive seasons and played more than 50 European games, 201 games (19 tries) for Llanelli and the Scarlets. He had been part of the West Wales region since signing from Leeds Tykes in 1999. In August 2010, Easterby was forced to retire through a knee injury at the age of 35. Martyn Wood
Martyn Benjamin Wood (born 25 April 1977 in Harrogate) was the Director of Rugby at Yorkshire Carnegie in the RFU Championship, he was previously a rugby union scrum-half who played for Wasps and Bath. In 2001 he gained 2 caps for . Early career Wood attended Harrogate Grammar School from 1988 to 1995 where he played in the School Rugby team. Peter John Larter (born ) is a former international rugby union player. He was capped twenty-four times as a lock for England between 1967 and 1973, scoring one try and one penalty for England. Jonathan Callard
Jonathan Edward Brooks Callard (born 1 January 1966, in Leicester) is a coach at the Rugby Football Union's National Academy. He formerly played rugby union at fullback for Bath and England. He is the brother of ex-Newport RFC player Nigel Callard. Callard taught physical education classes and sports classes at Downside School (Somerset) in the early to mid-1990s. He also taught Biology to younger students. Callard joined Bath from Newport in 1989. In November 1993 he made his international debut for England against the All Blacks, which saw England cause an upset, winning 15–9. National League 3 North
North Premier was a level five league in the English rugby union system, with the fourteen teams drawn from across Northern England. The other leagues at this level were London & South East Premier, Midlands Premier and South West Premier. The RFU reorganised the level five leagues for season 2022–23, with an increase from four to six and reducing the teams in each from fourteen to twelve. The teams in this league now play in either Regional 1 North East or Regional 1 North West. Format The fourteen teams in this league were drawn from across northern England with the champions promoted to National League 2 North and the runner-up going into a play-off with the second placed team from Midlands Premier with the winner also being promoted. 2015–16 National League 2 North
The 2015–16 National League 2 North is the seventh season (29th overall) of the fourth tier of the English domestic rugby union competitions since the professionalised format of the second division was introduced. There was talk of this being the last season in this format due to RFU changes to tier four which were supposed to result in a restructuring of the league from two regional divisions (north and south) to three (north, south-east and south-west) for the 2016–17 season but this seems to have been put on hold due to protests from the northern clubs who stood to lose revenue from a smaller fixture list.
