Harrison Township is one of the fifteen townships of Gallia County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census the population was 959. Geography Located in the southern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Green Township - north * Clay Township - east * Ohio Township - southeast corner * Guyan Township - south * Mason Township, Lawrence County - southwest corner * Walnut Township - west * Perry Township - northwest corner No municipalities are located in Harrison Township. Northwest Territory
The Northwest Territory, also known as the Old Northwest and formally known as the Territory Northwest of the River Ohio, was formed from unorganized western territory of the United States after the American Revolutionary War. Established in 1787 by the Congress of the Confederation through the Northwest Ordinance, it was the nation's first post-colonial organized incorporated territory. Chillicothe, Ohio
Chillicothe ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Ross County, Ohio, United States. Located along the Scioto River 45 miles (72 km) south of Columbus, Chillicothe was the first and third capital of Ohio. It is the only city in Ross County and is the center of the Chillicothe, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 22,059 at the 2020 census. Chillicothe is a designated Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Thomas Hannan (American Settler)
Thomas Hannan (December 25, 1757 - April 18, 1835) was an American Revolutionary War soldier and settler of the Kanawha River region of Virginia (now West Virginia). He was the first Anglo settler in what became Cabell County, West Virginia, Cabell County. Biography Early life Thomas Hannan was born on December 25, 1757, in Frederick County, Virginia to Thomas Hannan and Lucretia Morris. In 1781, he married Elizabeth Henry. Military service Hannan first fought in Lord Dunmore's War at the Battle of Point Pleasant. At the start of the American Revolutionary War, he enlisted in the navy for one year. In 1781, several years after his initial term of enlistment, he was drafted into a rifle regiment and served at the Siege of Yorktown, Battle of Yorktown. State Route 790 (SR 790) is an east–west state highway in southeastern Ohio, a U.S. state. Traversing the Wayne National Forest for its duration, SR 790's western terminus is at SR 775 in the unincorporated community of Lecta. Its eastern terminus is at SR 218 about north of the hamlet of Mercerville. Gallipolis ( ) is a chartered village in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Gallia County. The municipality is located in Southeast Ohio along the Ohio River about 55 miles southeast of Chillicothe and 44 miles northwest of Charleston, West Virginia.
