Harrison Center
Harrison Center is a community-based arts nonprofit based in the Old Northside Historic District of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The center hosts 36 artists in 24/7 studios, eight galleries, and serves 93,000 annually. History Building The Harrison Center (HC) resides in a historic church building on the corner of 16th and Delaware streets. The gothic revival building was originally constructed as the fourth home of First Presbyterian Church, designed by architectural firm Cropsey & Lamm. President Benjamin Harrison was a notable congregant, elder, and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian for forty years. However, he did not live to see the finished construction of the church’s new home in 1903. His second wife and widow, Mary Dimmick Harrison, commissioned a stained glass window for the church in memorial of Harrison. Old Northside Historic District
Old Northside is a residential neighborhood near downtown in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is bordered by 16th Street on the north, Pennsylvania Street on the west, Interstate I-65 on the south, and Bellefontaine Street on the east. The Monon Trail runs along the eastern edge of The Frank and Judy O'Bannon Old Northside Soccer Park. Old Northside was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and is home to many residences from the Victorian era. History Old Northside was a prominent residential neighborhood in the late 19th century, when many of Indianapolis' wealthier residents built mansions in the area. Old Northside was home to Benjamin Harrison (23rd President of the United States), Ovid Butler (founder of Butler University) and other notable figures, including magnates of the L.S. Herron School of Art and Design, officially IU Herron School of Art and Design, is a public art school at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is a professional art school and has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1952. The art school was founded in 1902 as the John Herron Art Institute, operating as an independent institution until its acquisition by Indiana University in 1967. In 2005, Herron relocated to Eskenazi Hall on the IUPUI campus after more than 100 years in the Herron–Morton Place neighborhood of Indianapolis.
