Harrington Harbour is an unconstituted locality within the municipality of Côte-Nord-du-Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada. History Harrington Harbour was founded near the end of the 19th century by fishermen from Newfoundland. The primary activity is commercial fishing for crabs, lobster, turbot, halibut, and cod. Harrington Harbour was named after Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl of Harrington. It is also known locally as "Hospital Island", from its earlier role as a medical centre for the area. Harrington Harbour is a small village on average 300 residents. Harrington Harbour was originally settled by Newfoundland families in search of fish stocks in the second half of the 19th century. Dr. Wilfred Grenfell, founder of the famous medical mission in the region, visited Harrington Harbour starting in the late 19th century. Jean-François de La Rocque de Roberval also named "l'élu de Poix" or sieur de Roberval (Carcassonne, c. 1495 - Paris, 1560) son of an unknown mother and Bernard de La Rocque military and former seneschal of Carcassonne. He was a French officer, appointed viceroy of Canada by Francis I and led the first French colonial attempt in the Saint Laurent valley in the first half of the 16th century with the explorer Jacques Cartier. Marguerite de La Rocque de Roberval ('' fl'' 1515–1542) was a French noblewoman who spent some years marooned on the Île des Démons while on her way to New France (Quebec). She became well known after her subsequent rescue and return to France; her story was recounted in the ''Heptaméron'' by Queen Marguerite of Navarre, and in later histories by François de Belleforest and André Thévet. Her story has been retold many times since 1560. Sir Wilfred Thomason Grenfell (28 February 1865 – 9 October 1940) was a British medical missionary to Newfoundland, who wrote books on his work and other topics. Early life and education He was born at Parkgate, Cheshire, England, on 28 February 1865, the Son of Rev. Algernon Sidney Grenfell, headmaster of Mostyn House School, and Jane Georgiana Hutchison. Grenfell moved to London in 1882. He then commenced the study of medicine at the London Hospital Medical College (now part of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry) under the tutelage of Sir Frederick Treves.
