Harold Dade
Harold Dade (March 24, 1923 in Chicago, IL – July 17, 1962) was an American professional boxer in the Bantamweight division who held the World Bantamweight championship. Amateur career *Won the 1940 Chicago Golden Gloves Championship in the flyweight (112 lb) division by decision over Gene Evans. Dropped a decision for the (112 lb) Intercity Championship to Demetrio Carabella. *Won the 1941 Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in the flyweight (112 lb) division by decision over Paul Carbetta. He was on the short end of an unpopular decision at the Intercity matches in the same year against Diogenes Leon. *Runner up in the 1941 National AAU Championship in Boston, in the Flyweight Class. Dade defeated Tony Peppi of Boston in the semi-finals, before losing the final to Lawrence Torpy of Philadelphia. Percy Bassett
Percy Bassett (January 3, 1930 – July 7, 1993) was a featherweight professional boxer from Pennsylvania. Personal life Percy Bassett was borne in Daneville, VA, in 1930, but his family moved to West Philadelphia when Bassett was 6 years old. Bassett went to Overbrook High School (Wilt Chamberlain later went there) but he dropped out once he began boxing. He had 16 amateur fights and won the prestigious Inquirer Diamond Belt championship in 1947. He turned pro later that year. Professional career Bassett made his professional debut at the age of 17, on July 31, 1947. The result in his first professional bout was a 3rd round knockout of opponent Joe Camarata. Bassett fought frequently, and had compiled a ruecord of 25-0 before losing for the first time, an eight-round points loss to Brown Lee on December 23, 1948. Jackie Graves (September 12, 1922 – November 15, 2005), alias "The Austin Atom", was a featherweight boxer from Minnesota. Personal life Graves was a native of Austin, Minnesota. Boxing career From 1944 to 1956 Graves compiled a career record of 82 wins (48 KOs) and 11 losses with 2 draws. He won the Minnesota State Featherweight Title in only his seventh professional fight, and before his career was over he had fought boxers including Willie Pep, Glen Flanagan, Miguel Acevedo, Del Flanagan, Corky Gonzales and Redtop Davis. Against Willie Pep Graves is named as the foil against whom Willie Pep won a round without throwing a punch. Charley Riley
Charley Riley (April 22, 1922 - May 22, 1994) is an inductee of the Boxing Hall of Fame. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was sometimes known as ''Chillin' Charley''. Career Charley Riley was a top featherweight boxing contender in the 1940s and 1950s. He achieved nationwide recognition in the United States with a trio of exciting fights with ex-NBA featherweight champ Phil Terranova. He lost via a one-punch body-shot knockout on February 22, 1946, but on April 30, 1947, evened the score with a 7th-round TKO of Terranova. On September 3, 1947, he scored a first-round TKO of Terranova. Reports were that the referee stopped this fight on the advice of the ring doctor because Terranova was bleeding profusely. Riley fought Willie Pep for the featherweight championship in St Louis January 16, 1950 and was knocked out by Pep by a body punch in the fifth round. Joseph "Sandy" Saddler (June 23, 1926 – September 18, 2001) was an American professional boxer. He was a two-time featherweight world champion, having also held the super featherweight title. Over his twelve-year career (1944–56), Saddler scored 104 knockouts and was stopped only once himself, in his second professional fight, by Jock Leslie. In 2003, Saddler was ranked number five on ''The Ring'' magazine's list of "100 Greatest Punchers of All Time". His nephew is Grandmaster Flash.
