Harin Fernando, Member of Parliament, MP (born 28 October 1978) is a Sri Lankan politician. He is the current Cabinet Ministry of Tourism and Lands, Minister of Tourism and Lands He is also a current member of the Sri Lanka Parliament from National List Member of Parliament, National List. He previously served as the Minister of Telecommunication, Digital Infrastructure facilities, Foreign Employment, Sports, and tourism in previous Sri Lankan governments. He was the 7th List of Chief Ministers of Uva, Chief Minister of Uva Province. Early life and education Born in Wattala to a Roman Catholic family, Fernando was educated at St. Joseph's College, Colombo. Badulla electoral district is one of the 22 multi-member electoral districts of Sri Lanka created by the 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. 2018 Anti-Muslim Riots In Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan anti-Muslim riots were a series of religious riots targeting Muslims that began in the town of Sri Lankan located in Ampara on 26 February 2018, spreading to the Kandy District by March 2nd until its end on March 10th 2018. Muslim citizens, mosques, and other properties were attacked by mobs of Sinhalese Buddhists. The Government of Sri Lanka undertook a forceful crackdown on the rioting by imposing a state of emergency and deploying the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to assist the Police in the affected areas. The situation was under control by 9 March. Two fatalities and ten injuries were reported among Sinhalese, Muslims, and Police. According to the police, forty-five incidents of damage to houses and businesses were reported, while four places of worship were attacked. 2010 Sri Lankan Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Sri Lanka on 26 January 2010. The elections were announced on 23 November 2009 when incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided to seek a fresh mandate prior to the expiration of his term in 2011. Nominations were accepted on 17 December 2009. Rajapaksa, who was elected president for a 6-year term in November 2005, was the candidate of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance. General Sarath Fonseka, a former commander of the Sri Lankan Army, was his main opponent in the election. Fonseka had been endorsed by a number of main opposition parties, including the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. 2014 Uva Provincial Council Election
Provincial council elections were held in Sri Lanka on 20 September 2014 to elect 34 members to one of the nine provincial councils in the country. 0.9 million Sri Lankans were eligible to vote in the election. Elections to the remaining eight provincial councils were not due as they had their last election in 2012, 2013 or 2014 (Mar). The United People's Freedom Alliance's domination of Sri Lankan elections continued as expected. It retained control of Uva Provincial Council. 2015 Sri Lankan Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Sri Lanka on 8 January 2015, two years ahead of schedule. The incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the United People's Freedom Alliance's candidate, seeking a third term in office. The United National Party (UNP)-led opposition coalition chose to field Maithripala Sirisena, the former Minister of Health in Rajapaksa's government and general secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) – the main constituent party of the UPFA – as its common candidate. Sirisena was declared the winner after receiving 51.28% of all votes cast compared to Rajapaksa's 47.58%. The result was generally seen as a major upset. United National Party
