Hardenberg Family
Hardenberg (; nds-nl, Haddenbarreg or '' 'n Arnbarg'') is a city and municipality in the province of Overijssel, Eastern Netherlands. The municipality of Hardenberg has a population of about 60,000, with about 19,000 living in the city. It received city rights in 1362 from Jan van Arkel, Bishop of Utrecht. The famous Pieterpad passes through Hardenberg, a municipality which is located on the German border. Transport Cycling There are many cycling routes throughout Hardenberg. The Great Hardenburg Bicycle Race takes place each August, with the top 3 victors being named the "Wheeler-Kings" of the town and given lifetime passes to the local museum. Road The N34, which runs through Hardenberg, is its major road. There are no formal rules in the Netherlands to distinguish cities from other settlements. Smaller settlements are usually called ''dorp'', comparable with villages in English speaking countries. The Dutch word for city is ''stad'' (plural: ''steden''). The intermediate category of town does not exist in the Netherlands. Historically, there existed systems of city rights, granted by the territorial lords, which defined the status of a place: a ''stad'' or ''dorp''. Cities were self-governing and had several privileges. In 1851 the granting of city rights and all privileges and special status of cities were abolished. Since then, the only local administrative unit is the municipality. Regardless of this legal change, many people still use the old city rights as a criterion: certain small settlements proudly call themselves a ''stad'' because they historically had city rights, while other, newer towns may not get this recognition. Pieterpad
The Pieterpad is a long distance walking route in the Netherlands. The trail runs from Pieterburen, in the northern part of Groningen (province), Groningen, south through the eastern part of the Netherlands to end just south of Maastricht, on the top of Mount Saint Peter (''St Pietersberg''), at a height of . The Pieterpad is one of the official Long Distance Paths in the Netherlands (Lange Afstand Wandelpad Nummer 9) and by far the most popular of its long distance walking routes. It is possible to walk the route in either direction, and throughout the year. It is well signposted, and is well served by public transport and accommodation throughout its length. The official guide book is in two volumes, Pieterburen-Vorden and Vorden-Maastricht. HHC Hardenberg is a football club from Hardenberg, Netherlands. The club is currently playing in the Tweede Divisie. History HHC Hardenberg was founded in 1954, as the result of a merger between ''Hardenberg Voetbal Club'' of Hardenberg en ''SV Heemse'' of neighbouring Heemse. The letters HHC stand for ''Hardenberg Heemse Combinatie'' (Hardenberg Heemse Combination). The club won its first title, in the ''Vierde Klasse'' (Fourth Class), in the 1964–65 season, securing promotion to the ''Derde Klasse'' (Third Class). The club played in that division for 11 seasons, and won the title in 1975–76, clinching promotion to the ''Tweede Klasse'' (Second Class).
