Long serving members are Phil Kakulas on bass guitar, guitar and vocals; and Rob Snarski on vocals and guitar. Leon Payne
Leon Roger Payne (June 15, 1917 – September 11, 1969), "the Blind Balladeer", was an American country music singer and songwriter. Life He was born in Alba, Texas, United States. He was blind in one eye at birth, and lost the sight in the other eye in early childhood. He attended the Texas School for the Blind from 1924 to 1935. He married Myrtie and they had two children together, as well as two children from Myrtie's previous marriage. Payne died at age 52 from a heart attack in 1969 in San Antonio, Texas. Myrtie died in San Antonio in 2008, and Leon's composition "I Love You Because" was played at her funeral service by pedal steel guitarist Emmett Roch, accompanied by musicians who were members of her church. "Lonesome Town" is a song written by Baker Knight. A version sung by Ricky Nelson became a hit single in the United States, reaching #7 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #15 on the R&B chart in 1958. Milton Esco Estes (May 9, 1914 – August 23, 1963) was an American country music and Southern gospel singer and musician. Estes was a host and house performer at the Grand Ole Opry. Early life Milton Esco Estes was born on May 9, 1914, in Arthur, Tennessee. Career Estes moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and in 1937, he debuted as a singer and MC at the Grand Ole Opry with Pee Wee King’s Golden West Cowboys. With Pee Wee King, he performed with Tommy Sosebee, Redd Stewart, Eddy Arnold and Cowboy Copas. Estes sang bass. In 1941, Estes moved from Nashville to Raleigh, North Carolina. He left country music and began performing Southern gospel music. He became lead singer for Lone Star Quartet, a group originally from Texas. David McComb
David Richard McComb (17 February 19622 February 1999) was an Australian musician. He was the singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Australian bands, The Triffids (1976–89) and The Blackeyed Susans (1989–93). He also had a solo career including leading David McComb and The Red Ponies. Over his career McComb had bouts of alcoholism, and amphetamine and heroin abuse. He developed cardiomyopathy and in 1996 underwent a heart transplant. David McComb died on 2 February 1999 "due to heroin toxicity and mild acute rejection of his 1996 heart transplant", according to the coroner. In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), as part of its 75th Anniversary celebrations, named "Wide Open Road" by The Triffids – written by McComb – as one of the APRA Top 30 Australian songs, Top 30 Australian songs of all time. Larry Collins (born Lawrence Collins; October 4 1944) is an American Guitarist, best known for a variety of things including, being a part of The Collins Kids duo with his sister Lorrie, being mentored by Joe Maphis, and for his fast and energetic playing. When the Collins Kids split up in the 1960s, Collins continued to perform as a solo artist, and most notably co-wrote the 1972 hit " Delta Dawn". Career Larry was a member of The Collins Kids, with his sister Lorrie (1942-2018). Their hits in the 1950s, included "Hop, Skip and Jump", "Beetle Bug Bop" and "Hoy Hoy". "Delta Dawn" is a song written by musician Larry Collins and country songwriter Alex Harvey. The first notable recording of the song was in 1971 by American singer and actress Bette Midler for her debut album. However it is best known as a 1972 top ten country hit for Tanya Tucker and a 1973 US number one hit for Helen Reddy. Though the song is attributed exclusively to Collins and Harvey, the melody of the chorus is in fact nearly identical to the Christian hymn Amazing Grace. Content The title character is a faded former Southern belle from Brownsville, Tennessee, who, at 41, is obsessed to unreason with the long-ago memory of a suitor who jilted her.
