Phyllis Haver
Phyllis Maude Haver (January 6, 1899 – November 19, 1960) was an American actress of the silent film era. Early life Haver was born in Douglass, Kansas to James Hiram Haver (1872–1936) and Minnie Shanks Malone (1879–1949). When she was young, her family moved to Los Angeles, California. Haver attended Los Angeles Polytechnic High. After graduating, she played piano to accompany the new silent films in local theaters. Career Haver auditioned for comedy producer Mack Sennett on a whim. Sennett hired her as one of his original Sennett Bathing Beauties. Within a few years, she appeared as a leading lady in two-reelers for Sennett Studios. In 1923, Buster Keaton cast her as the female lead in his short ''The Balloonatic''. Later, while signed with DeMille-Pathé, Haver played the part of murderess Roxie Hart in the first film adaptation of ''Chicago'' in 1927, opposite Hungarian film actor Victor Varconi. Eddie Sturgis (1881–1947), also known as Edwin Sturgis, Ed Sturgis, or Edward Sturgis, was an American character actor of the silent and sound film eras. His career began in the 1916 film, '' The Lost Bridegroom'', which starred John Barrymore. In his twenty-three year career, he appeared in over fifty films, mostly in supporting or smaller roles. His final performance would be in the 1939 Joe E. Brown vehicle, ''Beware, Spooks!'', in a minor role. Sturgis died on December 13, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. Ethel Grey Terry (October 2, 1882 – January 6, 1931) was an American actress of the silent era. She is best remembered for her role in '' The Penalty'' with Lon Chaney. Early years Ethel Grey Terry was born in Oakland, California, the daughter of actress Lillian Lawrence, a single mother. She first appeared on stage, in a supporting role to Wallace Eddinger, when she was 5 years old. Raised in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Terry attended Notre Dame Academy for seven years. She had an early interest in art and planned to make her career in that field.
