Harborwalk
Harborwalk is a multi-use recreational trail located in Punta Gorda which runs along the Charlotte Harbor and the Peace River. Route description Beginning at Adrienne Street near Bayfront Health Punta Gorda on Marion Avenue, the mostly concrete path runs along the mangroves of the Peace River a short distance before it shifts north slightly reaching Laishley Park. The path runs on the north side of Laishley Park along the river, passing by the "Spirit of Punta Gorda" monument, a sundial commemorating the landfall of Hurricane Charley in 2004. The path weaves its way around the Laishley Park Marina before making its way back to the river bank. After passing underneath the Barron Collier Bridge, the path passes by the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, who operates a tiki bar along the path. Gilchrist Bridge
The Albert W. Gilchrist Bridge is a bridge in Charlotte County, Florida crossing the Peace River between Port Charlotte, Florida and Punta Gorda, Florida. The two-lane 45-foot-tall structure carries the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 41 (Tamiami Trail). US 41's northbound lanes are carried over the river on the adjacent Barron Collier Bridge. It was named for former Florida Governor Albert W. Gilchrist, who resided in Punta Gorda. History The Gilchrist Bridge opened for traffic on July 4, 1976. It was built to make U.S. 41 a four lane highway over the Peace River. When the Gilchrist Bridge opened, the original Barron Collier Bridge was still in service, which was a low-level drawbridge. Punta Gorda Linear Park
The Punta Gorda Linear Park is a mile-long rail trail in Punta Gorda, Florida. It runs from Cross Street (US 41) near Helen Avenue southeast though a residential neighborhood to Fishermen's Village. Despite its short length, it connects to the Harborwalk at Fishermen's Village, which runs an additional two and a half miles northeast along the Peace River. It also connects to Punta Gorda's Shared-Use Path along Shreve Street. History The Punta Gorda Linear Park runs along a former Florida Southern/Atlantic Coast Line Railroad right of way. The Barron Collier Bridge is a bridge in Charlotte County, Florida that crosses the Peace River (Florida), Peace River connecting Punta Gorda, Florida and Port Charlotte, Florida. It is 45 feet tall and carries two northbound lanes of U.S. Route 41 in Florida, U.S. Route 41 (Tamiami Trail). The southbound lanes cross the river on the adjacent Gilchrist Bridge.
