Harbord Harbord
Harbord Harbord (possibly 1675 – 28 January 1742) was an East Anglian landowner and Member of Parliament. He was known as Harbord Cropley from his birth until 1710. Life He was the eldest son of Colonel William Cropley of Shelland in Suffolk. and his wife Catherine Harbord, daughter of Sir Charles Harbord, surveyor general to Charles I of Great Britain. William was Catherine's second husband, after the death of her first (Thomas Wright of Kilverstone, Norfolk). Sir Charles had bought Stanninghall from the Waldegraves in 1648 and left it to his only son John Harbord, who also acquired Gunton. Harbord Cropley was educated in Drinkstone and Bury-St-Edmunds before attending Caius College, Cambridge from 9 May 1694. His mother's brother John Harbord died without heirs in 1710 and left most of his estates to Harbord Cropley, who changed his name to Harbord Harbord. John Harbord
John Bradley Harbord (1812 – 1896) was a Church of England priest and author. Harbord was born in Liverpool on 27 June 1828 and educated at St John's College, Cambridge. He was ordained in 1854 and after a curacy at Lower Halstow spent the remainder of his ecclesiastical career as a Naval chaplain, rising to be Chaplain of the Fleet from 1882 to 1888. Harbord Collegiate Institute (HCI or Harbord) is a public secondary school located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The school is located in the Palmerston-Little Italy-Annex neighbourhood, situated on the north side of Harbord Street, between Euclid Avenue and Manning Avenue. From the 1920s to the 1950s, about 90 percent of the student body was Jewish, while today the student body largely consists of students of East Asian and Portuguese descent. William Harbord (cricketer)
William Edward Harbord (15 December 1908 – 28 July 1992) played first-class cricket for Yorkshire County Cricket Club as an amateur player between 1929 and 1935. He also played once for Oxford University in 1930 and for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1934 and 1935. He appeared for Yorkshire's Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship competition between 1928 and 1933, and for a Minor Counties representative side in a non-first-class match in 1934. Born in Manton, Rutland, Harbord was a right-handed batsman, who scored 512 runs at 18.28 with his top score, his only century, 109, coming for Yorkshire against Oxford University in 1930. He also scored 63* against Cambridge University. He was one of the few Yorkshire players not born in the county in the years before the club lifted this restriction in 1992. William Harbord, 2nd Baron Suffield
Colonel William Assheton Harbord, 2nd Baron Suffield (21 August 1766 – 1 August 1821), was a Member of Parliament for Ludgershall (1790–1796) and Plympton Erle (7 February 1807 – 4 February 1810). He was colonel of a fencible cavalry regiment, the Norfolk Fencible Light Dragoons (1794), the Blickling Rifle Volunteers (1803), and East Norfolk Regiment of Militia (1808). Sir William Harbord, 1st Baronet (c. 1696 – 17 February 1770), of Gunton and Suffield, Norfolk, was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from between 1734 and 1754. Early life Harbord was born William Morden, the eldest son of John Morden of Suffield and his wife Judith Cropley, daughter of William Cropley of Shelland in Suffolk. William Harbord (25 April 1635 – 31 July 1692), of Grafton Park, was an English diplomat and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1661 and 1690. Life Harbord was the second son of Sir Charles Harbord (1596–1679) of Charing Cross, who had been Surveyor General to Charles I, and his second wife, Mary van Aelst, daughter of Jan van Aelst of Kent. James Harbord
Lieutenant General James Guthrie Harbord (March 21, 1866 – August 20, 1947) was a senior officer of the United States Army and president and chairman of the board of RCA. Early life Harbord was born in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of George W. and Effie (Gault) Harbord. His family moved when he was four, and Harbord was raised in Pettis County, Missouri and Lyon County, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College, later renamed Kansas State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1886. After unsuccessfully applying to the United States Military Academy, Harbord taught school, and afterwards taught at the agricultural college. In January 1889, Harbord enlisted in the United States Army, joining the 4th Infantry Regiment as a private. He served in the enlisted ranks until July 1891, and advanced to corporal, sergeant, and regimental quartermaster sergeant. Harbord Harbord, 1st Baron Suffield (26 January 1734 – 4 February 1810), known as Sir Harbord Harbord, Bt, between 1770 and 1786, was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1756 to 1784 when he was raised to the peerage as Baron Suffield. Biography Harbord was born Harbord Morden at Thorpe, Norfolk, the eldest son of William Morden, later Sir William Harbord, 1st Baronet, and his wife Elizabeth Britiffe, daughter of Robert Britiffe, Recorder of Norwich. His father assumed by royal licence the surname of Harbord in lieu of Morden in 1742 according to the will of his maternal uncle, Harbord Harbord.
